Our Story to Tell.
April 10th, 2017, I attended the Memorial Service / Celebration of Life for my dear friend, Kimberly Dawn Skinner. In the nine days between her passing and her service, I felt the world grow so much more cold, dim, and dull than it ever had been. But on April 10th, her family had set out a binder containing her bucket list. I was holding back tears that day, but I couldn’t stop myself from smiling while I read that list. Every line reminded me more and more of what the world lost, but it was her. Right there on that paper was a better description of who she was than I or anyone else could ever hope to give outside the length of a college lecture. That list reminded me that Kim’s life was a constant adventure that she shared with everyone she met. Her family asked us to continue her adventures by picking something from her bucket list and just doing it, but I know Kim would have wanted everyone to have an adventure of their own at some point in their life - not just the people who were fortunate enough to meet her.
Here’s Kim’s list. Read it. Pick something, accomplish it, come back and share your story with us. Maybe you’ll give a bouquet of flowers to a stranger and you’ll end up finding your soulmate. Maybe you’ll visit a theme park and ride everything (kid shit included) and realise that growing old is inevitable, but growing up isn’t. That’s for you to decide, her list is only for inspiration. But this is our story to tell.
