best quality: his optimism for a new dawn and a better day ahead is super admirable after everything he’s been through

worst quality: idk, I guess his self esteem? He sometimes feels like he’s failing and failing and failing and if he gets into a spiral like that it takes some time for him to pull himself out of it. Also another thing is his knowledge; he knows that nations act in their own self interest and he knows that any number of his friends could be using him for their own ends, and it depresses him sometimes. Related to that, I don’t think he has many people to confide his fears in because he doesn’t feel like he has any /true/ friends, since he knows that he is, for many, just an extremely strategic pawn on the chessboard that many want to win over.

ship them with: unorthodox answer but: China. Yeah, the power dynamic and irl histories are iffy, but if it’s disregarded, for example in an AU setting, kimchibun is very cute imo! Also, Estonia; KorEst has so much potential even if they’ve never interacted in canon lol.

brotp them with: Taiwan, America, Vietnam

needs to stay away from: the thought that he could have done better somehow, fixed all his struggles and kept his people from suffering too much.

misc. thoughts: another favorite that I should spend more time on. There’s so much POTENTIAL in his character, especially in historical hetalia, but there’s little content for that. Also I want more fan fiction that centers on him and isn’t too shippy; some historical angst would be good too. I should also get around to writing a fic about him and North Korea soon T _ T too many ideas and too little time.

And one last thing: another fic rec. It’s a KorEst fic (but also has AmeIce) called City Pop by mikkimikka and it’s a story about the four of them (US, SK, Estonia, and Ice) it’s just some domestic young nation teenage crush stuff, but the characterization for South Korea and Estonia?? Amazing and wonderful. Also has really good commentary on how the nations age, and how their appearances are so skewed and contradictory with their actual age. The author manages to weave in a more serious, thoughtful mood in with the more lighthearted overall mood and it’s a really cute fic! 10/10 recommended if you don’t mind some rarepairs :)
