Happy Earth Day! “The place where the sweet waters fall into the sea,” is the translation of the Native American name Mamaroneck, which is a town situated twenty-three miles north of New York City, at the mouth of a river and at the head of a harbor. Kim Cridler’s “Where the Sweet Waters Fall” (2014) at the MNR Mamaroneck station is inspired by the trees and Romanesque Revival arches seen throughout the area.

Today we’re celebrating the 100th birthday of America’s National Park Service! Kim Cridler’s leafy archway at the Mamaroneck Metro North station is inspired by the lush forest canopies found in nature and supported by slender tree trunks, which have a deep rooted sense of history. The title “Where the Sweet Waters Fall” (2014) pays homage to the Native American origin of the village’s name, which translates to “where the sweet waters fall into the sea”.
