Story Time! (Aka, What Not To Do In China, as told by Sol)
Once upon a time, back in the Days of Yore when Sol thought they were straight and cis, they went to Shanghai. They spoke enough Mandarin to Probably Not Die (TM) and were with some school friends and a Chinese professor, so it wasn’t likely that they were going to get in too much trouble.
However, there was one small problem. In the USA, Sol was NOT allowed to drink. But in this foreign country with not-insane drinking laws, they WERE allowed to drink.
Thus, Sol discovered tequila, accidentally spilled someone’s beer who wasn’t in my friend-group, got to talking with them despite being wasted, and was casually coaxed all the way outside the bar before I was rescued by a friend. Said friend got into a taxi with me and we theoretically went back to our rented apartment because that’s where I woke up the next day.
I didn’t drink tequila again without supervision. I still don’t XD
TL;DR I almost got picked up in Shanghai by a stranger because it was the first time I’d ever had tequila and was NOT prepared for how strong that was.
