Hello! Beautifully written guide, but I feel there should be some talk of yukata as well? Many people often confuse them with kimono, and they are apparently not quite the same but similar, and worn for different reasons? (Yukata are more casual, I recall, and often worn in the summer.)
Hi! As we said in our original guide post is that ‘kimono’ is a general term!! Yukatas are a type of kimono! You are definitely right though, that they have their own occasions to be worn just like any other type, and are indeed often worn in the summer as the temperatures are high and yukatas are very light.
The major differences between yukatas and other types/styles of kimono is that they are the most informal type, are made of cotton with no lining, and you typically don’t wear juban (under garments) and/or the tabi socks! There are actually also other summer kimonos out there besides yukata!
This link here is actually a great overview source, just scroll down to the yukata section and you can read more about it! @yuyue-yue can also add to this i believe!
