Inkimono: Kimono Portraits in Tokyo
I’ve seen this “dress up kimono” thing become more popular in Kyoto each year, but the photos I’ve seen from them are more touristy and kitschy than elegant.
But InKimono seems to be offering quite a different experience. This artistic studio in Tokyo will dress you up, take you out to a natural setting, and create beautiful photos of you in traditional kimono. Not only is the kimono-dressing experience a once-in-a-lifetime activity for most foreigners, the resulting pictures are just captivating. From the stylist:
I offer personalized kimono experience: kimono styling, combined with a proper history and cultural explanation and a professional photo shoot. I do my best to create a unique kimono outfit for you — outfit made of traditional, authentic items as I only use real vintage kimono — and take professional portraits of you. I am passionate about my work and will go above and beyond to produce the best results!
The price is about $150 (depending on the yen rate) which is quite reasonable! It’s on my list for the next time I’m in Tokyo!
