(For the ‘can’t leave until you share a truth’ prompt.)
“A truth huh?” Lee paused, frowning lightly before he let out a sigh. “Alright before all this crap happened, I murdered two people. The police only caught me for one though. Guy was a senator so it was big news. He was having an affair with my wife and I walked in on one of their…meet ups. I didn’t react well to finding this out, before I had no clue that it was going on at all…sure Carla was distant from me but I blamed it on work; we both had time-consuming jobs so it didn’t leave us much time for each other. Well I saw red upon seeing them together like that so I pushed Carla away and strangled that bastard. He tried to fight but it didn’t help. It wasn’t too long before he was dead. I let his body fall to the floor as I turned to look at my wife. She was pale, kept muttering that I’d just murdered someone. I tried to walk over to her but she backed up, told me to get away from her. Well I wasn’t about to let that happen, certainly not after finding out that she’d willing cheated on me. I mean…I was always good to her, you know? I don’t understand why she had to go and do that, she could have just come to me and we could have talked things through….maybe if she’d done that she would have forced me to kill her either.”
He lowered his gaze to the floor for a moment, scowling at the memory. “She said she’d promise to never do it again but…how could I trust her? There was no way I’d be able to trust her after what she did, how was I to know if she’d do it again? She hid it from me once so she could do it again and I wasn’t about to let some other man get his grubby hands on what was mine so I took away the chance of that happening. I picked up one of Carla’s stone trinkets and she ran. I managed to catch up to her before she could leave and I hit her. I caught her before she could hit the floor; kept her head up so she wouldn’t bleed over the floor and make it obvious another person had died in the house. I wanted people to know I’d killed the senator, he was an ass and his death was a warning but it wasn’t like that for Carla. If I couldn’t have her then no one could, simple as that. I didn’t want anyone prodding her body with those exams of theirs, it wasn’t their body to touch you see so I had to get rid of it. I wrapped her body up in a spare bed sheet we had. I some how managed to get her out of the house and to my car without anyone seeing and I drove until it got dark before making my way to a river. It was deep enough and the current was fast enough to take her body away after I put it in. As far as I know, no one ever found her and I know she won’t have come back because of the head wound. …The senator on the other hand will have. I wonder if I could find him and kill him again? I’d quite like that.” He rubbed his chin before turning to glance at Fred. “Well there you have it, there’s my truth.”
