hi! which one of celeste ng's novels would you personally recommend to read first? i'm not sure which one to choose
i don’t know what kind of books you like so i can’t really give an accurate recommendation. i personally read “everything i never told you” first, but both of her novels are standalones, it doesn’t matter which order you read them in. both are slow-paced, suburban family dramas, but focus on different things. “everything i never told you” starts with a teenage girl's death and the rest of the book is told in flashbacks of how she and her family got to that point, and how her family dealt with it afterwards while uncovering things about themselves and each other. just based on the subject matter, it’s a heavier read than “little fires everywhere”. “little fires everywhere” is about relationships and just…people. it’s hard to describe. it has a plot, but it has a more slice-of-life feel to it. i think “everything i never told you” hit me harder, personally, but “little fires everywhere” might be the better book in overall construction. both are excellent, and celeste ng’s prose is incredibly gorgeous. her writing style is my favorite among authors i’ve read recently.
50 cents/1 euro for a pint or a smaller beer?
a regular beer. tbh a pint would be a ‘balde’ or ‘litrosa’ and its still not over 2€
thing is, drinking a pint in portugal isnt that common, usually its tourists who do (and not with portuguese beer, but like a Heineken, Guiness, Kilkenny, etc) or people who drink fast. our beer has a lot of gas and ‘dies’ quickly (imagine drinking lukewarm coca cola, thats basically it). When people buy litrosas (in a bottle) its usually so lots of people can drink from it. So all in all drinking beer in portugal would be 50 cents/1€ per cup if you stay with super bock or sagres
(idk if you’re portuguese or not but if yes lmao sorry abt the “beer-etiquette”, but the bottom line is: if you’re a fast drinker, drink a pint, otherwise drink a regular beer cause it tastes better and you dont have to rush until the beer turns into gasified piss)
