What's the difference between otherkin and therians?

Therian: someone whose kintype is a real, identifiable species (either living right now or extinct) like a bear, owl, shark, etc.

Otherkin: someone whose kintype is not necessarily “real” or something that can be found on earth (mythical creatures, vampires, mermaids, hybrids, etc.)

EDIT: i also want to mention that all kinfolk are considered otherkin, but not all otherkin are therians.

Hey! I recently ran into a friend's blog where they openly identify as otherkin. I did a quick search of it, and am still a little confused about what it is. Would you mind explaining it to me? If it doesn't fit with your blog that's fine, I would just like to know more about it because I don't understand it and want to know more so I can be supportive when they tell me about their identity.

hi! an otherkin is someone who identifies as something other than human, despite having a human form. they either feel and remember experiences from a past life as that kintype, or feel that they were a kin that was born in the wrong body. for example: im kin with a manatee, and i have memories of swimming around with my friends in the ocean. sometimes i can feel my tail and my blubbery gray body, but for now i’m in a human form (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥｀)anyway, i love that you’re so open and supportive of your friend! make sure to ask them about their feelings and memories as a kin, and let them know that their kin experiences are valid! ^.^-admin M
