Hi thar :3 Can I have uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh a King AU! Hanzo or McCree where one of them becomes obsessed with a commoner girl?
fun YEAH fuck me UP WITH THAT KING AU
this got way too long
You were surprised when you had actually been accepted into your job as a maid in the Shimada castle. You were newly eighteen, and your parents had encouraged you to get out into the world– start making some money and meeting people. You had previously been intently focused on your studies, hoping that your literacy would give you an upper hand in the job market.
As it turns out, you had been correct. It was only because being a royal servant required literacy that you were able to apply, and you quickly fell into your role within the castle.
Your work was fairly simple, doing the bidding of others which could consist of anything from cleaning, serving food, running errands or etcetera… It meant you were all the more surprised when your boss of sorts told you that you would be attending on one of the King’s royal dinners. He was only having some nobles over for dinner before they did some business, and you were instructed to wait with three other servants as they ate– your job being to clean up the dishes when their meal was over.
If you were being honest, you were a little terrified. You had never been this close to the king before, and it sure was taking its toll on you. Your head was lowered as he entered the room, your legs bent in a curtsey just as the other servants’ were, so you couldn’t really see him. You could definitely feel his presence, so overwhelming in the silence and respect it demanded.
You could only see his feet as he entered, the room deadly silent, neatly polished and pointed shoes moving leisurely across the floor as he inspected the line of servants that would be attending to his guests today. You could feel yourself growing more nervous as he grew closer, walking down the line at an even pace before–
He stopped just before you, and you could only thank whatever gods were out there that your hair managed to cover your panicking expression as you tried to center yourself.
“You.” His voice was chilling, and you had to quell the shiver that trilled up your neck. You swallowed and took a deep breath, raising your head as you straightened up out of your curtsey, offering your King a good look at your face.
He almost looked… pleased? Part of you was calmed by that, the other part was worried.
“I haven’t seen you before.” Oh no. That comment would most likely warrant a response. Would it? Were you supposed to respond?
“I-I mostly work as a servant, my lord– Running errands and such.” His eyes narrowed at you momentarily, and you gulped as his appraising look swept from your face to your feet and back up.
He gave a small noise of disapproval and you closed your eyes and returned to your curtsey as he moved on. What had you done for him to make that noise? Of course you would mess up your first chance to move up in your job by disappointing the king in some way.
You sighed as you flopped onto your bed, not even bothering to take off your service dress yet. Lord, this week had been exhausting.
Ever since you served the king at that damn dinner, you had gotten no rest from his presence. After your first exchange with him, he hadn’t taken his eyes off of you as you moved around the table, cleaning up plates as the nobles talked.
There had even been a moment where you had gathered some dishes, intent on bringing them back to the kitchen when King Hanzo had stopped you with a singular motion of his hand as you passed, gesturing you to come closer.
“Bring me some more wine.”
You wanted to scream in your pillow as you remembered. That hadn’t even been your job! Why would he ask you to do that? It had been nerve wracking, having to take the wine bottle from one of the other servants as you gave them your dishes to take back to the kitchen.
You had been lucky not to spill any as you poured it into his glass as he held it with your hands shaking so bad. The worst part? As you had turned to leave, he put his hand up once more. He didn’t have to say anything– you knew what that one meant.
Stay.
So you had stood there, sweating and occasionally pouring him more wine as he talked. You had only escaped when the bottle was empty, and finally excused yourself from his presence.
The rest of the week had been just as strange, your jobs becoming closer and closer to King Hanzo until you were cleaning his study when he wasn’t there.
The worst worst part? You felt eyes on you all the time now. Like someone was watching you so very closely, even when you turned around to find no one around you besides the emptiness of the room.
You became finicky all of the sudden, constantly peering behind you as you walked, paranoid that the next corner you turned might hold Hanzo himself. He seemed to be everywhere you were.
In the gardens when you were pruning the rose bushes, in the hallways when you were cleaning the windows– Never doing anything more than walking about leisurely or reading some piece of paperwork or another.
That was always when you had felt the sensation of being watched the strongest.
You had started receiving… gifts. If you could call them that. They weren’t anything outrageous, just little things that you needed here and there. Yesterday, when your apron had broken at yet another seam from wear, you found another on your bed– brand new and without a note.
The day before that had been windy as you worked in the gardens, and you had received a modest ribbon hair tie after a day of pushing your hair out of your face.
No one had seen who had left it, either. Part of you was flattered, the other part terrified at just who might be watching you.
