[so I wrote a story based around it! Thank you so much for the gift! I hope the story is to your liking! ❤️💖]

Mina came through the portal Indi opened up with the twins. Both dressed up in nice clothes but not too formal. Indigo followed and closed the portal. She fussed over how the kids looked. She wasn't used to traveling so informally. Let alone being so casually dressed. Normally, she had an outfit for the event all preplanned with a crown. Indi made it clear no royal clothes or crowns. She didn't understand why. Even as he closed the portal and knocked on the door. It was only clear when Aria opened the door and cooed.

"Bambino!!" She pulled her hubby into a hug.

He hugged her back. Waving to Gail and Skylar inside. She immediately ushered them in along with Mina and the twins. She was instantly cooing over them.

"Brought the entire family this time," Skylar strode over and ruffled his fur. "Welcome home, little bro. Hey Mina."

She waved, "hey, thank you for taking him for as long as you did. He came back in a better state."

"Thank my mom for that," Skylar let the littles go by with his mom running after them. "She was on him the second she spotted him. Even took that gadget that lets him jump."

"It explains why it took a bit but I am glad it did. He needed it." She took off her matching cardigan. "I owe you."

"Did you get those supports in place?" He looked at her. "And did you find Shadow?"

"The support is in place. I just can't find him. Wherever he went...seems to be well hidden," Mina hung the cardigan up. "I'll find him though. He'll pay for what he did."

"Good. Now, let's relax! What are the Littles called?"

"Heh, Rave is our boy. Lyra is our girl," She replied, watching as Indi made sure both behaved. "They have no powers but I am glad they don't. They don't need to deal with Chaos Sickness."

"Momma, Rave and Lyra." Skylar told his mom as she cooed over the twins. "Let's have some fun. Real fun. You royals know parties for the rich."

Mina laughed, "but are they really that fun? Always so stuffy."

"Ready Momma? Gail?"

Aria clapped her hands together and nodded. She looked thrilled to have a house full of family. Cooing happily as they got the games set up.

"Rave and Lyra, get ready to watch me wipe the floor with your dad." Skylar handed the controller to Indi. "Ready for a rematch?"

'Y'know I am!' Indigo took the controller. 'I'm winning this time!'

"Oh ho? Challenge accepted," Skylar landed on the couch. "Bring it on, bro."

Indi claimed a seat by him. Gail and Mina sat with the kids by them. Both watching as the game loaded up. Aria came back with a tray full of drinks and cookies. Claiming a spot between Indigo and Skylar. They took turns. Whoever lost got to pass it to someone else. Even Aria joined in. Giggling when she almost beat Skylar. He took a deep breath.

"Ooh, momma...you had me thinking I was about to lose," He laughed as she kept giggling. "But I still hold the championship."

Gail let out a sigh, "I tried to beat Indi and still lost."

"Indi is close to winning but I still hold the title," Skylar grinned as Indigo was given the controller again. "Alright, seeing as we spent a few hours. Let's call this the final round."

"One last race, you gotta win darling." Mina looked at him as she held Rave and Lyra in her lap.

"Skylar, hold that title close. Indi is coming for it," Gail laughed.

Aria giggled as both finished building their cars and said that they needed to help make dinner with the loser doing dishes. Skylar smirked at Indigo and got a grin back.

"Eat my dust."

'You'll be eating mine!'

The race started and Indi was always near Skylar. Sometimes he would pass him but it was short lived. He'd get hit and Skylar would pass him. Both held their places evenly. Sometimes switching and losing the place to the other. Not even the computer was able to keep up. By the third lap, it was Skylar who took first place. Indigo was second.

"Okay, now that was close. He may take your title one day," Gail slowly stood up as she clapped. "That was so intense."

"I need to remember to keep an eye out for you in real life for sure," Skylar set the controller down. "Because wow...you got a skill."

Aria took the controller from Indi and turned the Wii off. Rave and Lyra were up with Mina standing up as well. They were the first to head into the kitchen with the kids following both. Indi took off the cardigan and put it over the couch. Aria spotted the Jumper and walked over. Taking it off and setting it on the table. She told him to keep it off until it was time to go. Then headed into the kitchen.

"You made her night," Skylar walked with him. "How have things been since going back?"

'Better. Back in therapy. She hired some of her old maids that know how to help and made them my personal advisors. Now, instead of...trying to think of something. I get real advice and different views that can help me make a decision.'

Skylar nodded, "she really is a good wife. I am glad she is at your side."

'I am too'

They headed into the kitchen to see them all helping Aria out. With all their help, they cooked and cleaned. Indigo did the dishes as promised for losing. He spotted a camera and looked up as Aria held out a wrapped gift to him. He carefully took the gift and unwrapped it. A green sweater, homemade, for him. She told him that she worked hard and apologized that it was a mess of things. He quickly dashed out of view. Changing from his dark blue tank top into the green sweater and returning to stand before her.

'I love it. Thank you, ma'

Aria pulled him into a hug and then grabbed the camera. Walking with him to the living room. She called everyone with the camera in the air.

"The first picture is with your four," Mina carefully took it.

"What about you?" Gail looked at her.

"I can be in the next one with the kids," She held it up. "Ready?"

Gail stood by Indi. One hand on his arm and the other on his shoulder. She only let go long enough to make sure her Santa Hat and dress were adjusted. Indigo had the green sweater and normal white capris with the happiest expression. Skylar had dark red pants with a lighter red shirt tucked in. One hand on the hip and the other on Indigo's other shoulder. Aria stood by Skylar. Hands together with a dark green sweater and tan pants. She looked thrilled.

Mina took the picture, "there we go." It slid out and she shook it until it developed. "There we go."

"Heh, your turn." Skylar took the camera. "Indi and you with the kids."

Mina walked over and stood next to Indigo. He put an arm around her and held her close. She put an arm around him. Both had their kids in their arms. They got a quick picture taken. Gail, Aria and Skylar had their own family photograph as well. With the final picture being of all of them. They set the camera timer up. Indi easily setting the timer and getting back in position. The last picture for the night before resting.

They ended up staying too late to go back. Rave and Lyra had fallen asleep on the couch. Aria took a picture of them. She giggled and tucked them in.

"Is it okay if we...stay the night?" Mina looked at Aria. "I know it's last minute."

Aria waved her worries away and said to stay until tomorrow. The little ones were asleep. No point in waking them to travel. Mina smiled and relaxed. Indigo stretched and yawned.

"Seems you are tired too. It's late. I say we all turn in." He stretched next.

Aria smiled and clapped her hands. A full house. She was overjoyed.

"Heh, made momma very happy indeed." Skylar heard to his room. "Night everyone."

"Night momma, night Indi." Gail followed.

Aria stopped them and made sure to get a hug and kiss. Even followed them. Mina made sure to tuck Rave and Lyra in before settling down by the couch.

"I am so glad we came. It was nice to just have a non royal Christmas," Mina smiled as Indi sat by her. "You came to the right place."

'I need...to remember that I am allowed to grieve. Its hard to...not feel weak when it comes to emotions'

She grabbed his hand, "darling, you need to mourn. You aren't weak. Never were. Showing weakness means you face the judge of others. How is that weak?"

Indigo kissed her, 'thank you. I would...not be in a healthy place.'

"I will always support you. No matter what." She kissed back. "Oh, Ms. Aria."

Indigo looked behind him and smiled as she put a blanket over his shoulders. Kissing him on the forehead and telling him to sleep well. She stood up and said the same to Mina.

'I called her Ma.'

"She has practically adopted you. Much like Lila. She seemed happy to have heard that," Mina got closer. "And as someone who knows how much you miss your mom. Having that maternal connection will help."

'I love you, Mina. I am glad my family likes you. If I were with her...'

"They would never see you again. I know. I promised to support you. I won't go back on my word." She snuggled with him. "I love you, Indi. Nothing will change it."

He closed his eyes and curled up next to her. They fell asleep long after.

Bonding

Indigo jumped through a portal. Hearing Mina tell him to go and enjoy himself. He had gotten far too antsy after being stuck at the castle. Yeah, he probably should have stayed to help Mina and his kingdom now that he was king. He also probably should focus on policy and how things would run now that it was just him. Mina was easily able to adjust. The people loved her.nthey also loved how easily she handled policy.

Had he actually stayed and not traveled to every dimension during his spiral, then he would be able to handle it better. Thankfully though, Mina took charge and helped him learn. He was still new to it but she told him he was handling it just fine. So long as he listened to the intelligence and made a decision that would benefit the people first. The consequences depending on what was done could be handled easily. So far, none of the ones they had were actually an issue. It was more about dealing with the nobles.

Indigo didn't abolish nobility. Many kept their titles and he allowed them to remain rich but he also opened education up to everyone. Medicine was open. It all was made fair. The nobles were just throwing fits. Fits he could easily handle. What he couldn't handle was staying for as long as he did. He started to feel trapped. He jumped to the first world he opened and told Mina he'd be back home once he didn't feel so confined. He took a deep breath and looked at where he was at.

The portal took him to Skylar's world. He really needed to ask him to let him drive a formula one car one day. For now, a simple visit far from royal duties. He should visit other friends after this. Just to get more time away from his world. He knocked on the door and waited. There were steps and then the door opened. Aria cooed the second she saw him. He got pulled inside and into a hug. It was fine with him. He was glad he came to a friendly dimension first. If he had gone to a dimension with his crown on, then he would be expected to uphold the image and behavior of a king. At least among friends and family, he could just be him.

Aria let go and pulled the crown off first and then the coronet he always wore, "Nessuna corona. Nessun dovere reale. Sii semplicemente te stesso."

He nodded. The no crowns or royal duties rule. His momma had that when he visited. She even took them to her room to keep them locked up. Here, Aria had taken them with her too. Shouting to Skylar that they had company. The racer walked into view and spotted him.

"Hey! Came to us this time huh? Need a break from your job?" Skylar grinned.

'and the pressure that comes with it. I just got done handling too much paperwork that I am fit to scream.' Indigo heard Aria shout that she stored the coronet and crown in the cabinet.

"Mama, you can't just take those. They are part of his uniform." Skylar looked towards the kitchen. "Sorry about that Indi."

'It's okay. She said. No crowns. No royalty. Just be me after taking them' He shrugged to show he truly didn't mind. 'i don't even know what that means'

"Oh, she means to be a kid. Play video games, talk, read... whatever hobbies you like to do. Outside of fighting and running." Skylar leaned against the couch. "Didn't you do those as a kid?"

'I had video games just not often. I read mostly. Running was always fun. Hmm, I tried painting but I don't get that skill. Not very paint oriented unless it's to design some project to tinker on.'

"Fair enough. What kind of games did you have?"

'Pong. Warlords, Space Tanks...old games. Nothing new.'

Skylar looked at the living room TV and the latest consoles. Then back at Indigo with a grin. He knew exactly where to start.

"I have to show you the latest tech then. It's going to blow your mind."

He ushered his brother to join him. Indi didn't fight. He followed around the couch and saw the sleek tech. It looked really nice too! The bird got two controllers and with one powered on the system. It made no noise. It just turned on and the TV lit up right away. He took the second controller and leaned back. Kicking off his shoes to get more comfortable.

"Let's start easy with a racing game. One of my favorites."

'I'd like to try driving again when we get the chance. It was fun. I would ask to drive a racing car but that is for when I feel ready.'

"Yeah, we can do that next time you visit. You are a natural at it though so we will add some extra tips. The kind to really test out your skill."

'I'm down.'

Skylar showed Indigo how to join the game as the second player, "so, how have things been?"

'Outside of dealing with Nobility having issues with there being no poor to subjugate into servitude. Good. Sadly, they are angry I have educated everyone.' Indigo stared at the screen. 'they told my father and he has yet again, scolded me for ruling wrong.'

"Didn't your old man step down? He can't say or do anything. You are the king now. He should be proud of what you've done," Skylar scoffed. "Typical of fathers to have issues with their sons success."

Indi nodded and looked at Skylar, 'My father is Shadow. He used to be kind, mom's death broke him. He's not been the same since.'

"It's no excuse to hurt his own kids like this," Skylar took a deep breath. "I don't know anything about him but the way he treats you already bothers me."

Indi looked at the screen as he selected what kind of car he wanted to drive and modify it for speed.

"I remember meeting your grandparents and sisters. Pearl, I think, told me she lives full time with your grandparents. She gets all the love and support she needs from them. I don't know how you don't scream at your old man, Indi." Skylar finished his and waited. "I would have."

'I don't care. He is how he is. He adores my other dad Sonic and that's fine. They live somewhere. Happy and stress free. I am learning to not care what he thinks. If I want validation, I know I'll get it from my real family. Even if it is the multiverse.'

"Course we'll do that. You rule a Kingdom. That pressure alone sounds stressful. Not sure if I could do that for you for a day off...don't know how that applies but at the same time. Not sure I would be able to handle the weight." Skylar snorted. "Although the power it has, well...makes it a tempting opportunity."

'what would you do if you were king for a day?'

"For a day? Do I have to follow rules and regulations or are we talking about no rules, just full power?"

'full power, no rules'

"Oh, anything I want huh?" Skylar "hmm"Ed as he closed his eyes. He snapped his fingers and opened his eyes again. "First off, momma and Gail, finest dresses to keep. That includes accessories and shoes.  Let's see...oh, I would throw a spontaneous ball. All my friends could come, get given the most lavish gifts possible and...oh, punish my donor."

Indi laughed.

"I'm serious. I would make him pay."

Skylar and Indigo focused on racing each other for break. Indi wasn't good and lost. Skylar won and was far ahead on the track.

"Hey, you were close on the second lap. Had me sweating."

'I was in 5th but thanks.' Indigo gently pushed him away.

"Oh, that's how it is." Skyler pulled him in and ruffled his quills. "Take this!"

Indi got free and stuck his tongue out. Skylar did the same back. They went back to the game for a rematch. Indigo learned from the last mistake. Too much speed and no control. He aimed for even control and speed.

"Ready for the next race?" Skylar smirked.

'I am now'

"I forget you adapt to every scenario. Well, this will be fun to see."

The race started again and Skylar took the lead once more.

"Sorry little bro, I am the champion in this house."

Indi fell behind and lost but won third place. Proper control was good to have but it was too slow. He needed to have just a little more speed.

"Third place. You show up two ranks. Nicely done. I am not losing my title that easily though."

Aria walked in and set a tray of cookies before them. All homemade. She left and came back with some drinks for them too. She gave them both a kiss on the forehead and told them to enjoy.

"Thanks momma. She makes the best cookies," Skylar took one.

Aria waited as Indigo took one and ate it. His tail started to wag right away.

"I think he likes it," Skylar pointed out his tail.

'Its really good!'

Aria looked absolutely thrilled as he took another. Ruffing the top of their heads as she got up. Heading to clean up her mess with her own tail feathers moving with some of her other feathers puffed out.

"That made her day," Skylar leaned back. "One day she may ask to adopt you as the youngest sibling to me and Gail."

'Pretty sure she already unofficially did that already' Indigo looked at him as he ate another cookie. 'I don't mind. It's nice to have a big family. Even if it's across the multiverse.'

"True, how many maternal figures do you have now?" Skylar joked.

Indigo stuck his tongue out, 'Ms. Aurum, my mom, Lilac and now, Ms. Aria.'

Skylar watched as Indi enjoyed the baked goods and drink. Then looked at the racing game still on the screen. Adaptive by nature. Not a skill one always had but for Indigo it was second nature. Learn, adapt and keep going. Someone taught him how to do that.

"I'm feeling nosey. What is your story?"

Indigo stared at him, confused.

"Your origins. Momma! You wanna hear Indi's origins?"

Aria came running in and leaned on the back of the couch. Indigo looked at both.

'its not a pretty story.'

"I want to hear it anyway and my mom for sure does too."

Skylar moved to let Aria sit instead of lean on the couch. He sat on the arm and she took his spot in front of him. Indigo got comfortable leaning against the couch.

'as a heads up. Might bring the mood down. Sorry in advance. It also does involve someone you two don't care for.'

"Is it my old man? If so, not surprised." Skylar waved a hand to show that worry away.

'During a race between my worlds Jet and  my father, Sonic. They found an abandoned Eggman Base. It was losing power. While exploring, they found me in a tube. Because the power was dying, I was also dying.'

He grabbed a snack and ate it.

'Jet was going to leave me, but Sonic didn't. He took me in. Here I am now'

"Typical of my old man."

Aria pulled Indigo into a hug. Telling him she was happy to have him around. Skylar moved and sat on the other side of the couch. Putting the controller next to Indi.

"Let's get your mind off that."

Indi took the controller and stayed in Aria's lap.

"Momma, he learns on the fly. It's really cool to watch." Skylar went back to building a racing.

Aria watched as Indi made a new car. Full Control, a little more speed and anything else that didn't work out got modified to hopefully be a better fit. They restarted the race. Three laps went by quick and he still sat in third but he clearly saw Indi was learning. He adjusted the car he had but left the speed and control alone. Everything else got his attention.

"Told ya momma, learns on the fly."

Aria nodded. Indi sat up and seemed to focus on adjust every small detail before finishing. She watched as he also ate from his snacks. She switched the plates and drinks while the boys raced. Indi came in second but was still far behind Skylar.

"Ooh boy, you are getting closer."

'I'm close to a winning car. I am catching up this time!'

"Oh yeah? Last race. Give it your all little bro."

The race was reset. Three laps and this time, Indi was always close to Skylar. Aria was on the edge of the couch. Watching as the finish line was coming up. Skylar won with Indigo coming in second again.

"Oh man, that was close. You almost had me." Skylar laughed.

Indigo laughed. So close but still so far away. He leaned back and relaxed.

"Still the family champion." Skylar ate another cookie.

'I'll win one of those races'

"Looking forward to it."

Both pounded their fists together. Aria hugged both and went to get them more food.

"She noticed the little weight loss. Hope you are still hungry." Skylar finished his drink.

'between her and momma, my appetite increased. I just have a fast metabolism so hard to keep the weight.'

"She'll always have a reason to make more food." Skylar heard her calling to clear their snacks and save their appetite. "She is making lunch."

'guess I better pack these up and save them for later.'

"Wanna help her out?" Skylar turned the game off as he got up.

'Yeah, I wanna help.' Indigo stood up and grabbed the tray.

Coronation Ceremony: Moment Has Arrived

[short, simple and to the point. The comic @tails-perhour was actually close to what I had planned. So I followed parts of it but still kept to what others have told me for their characters. Now...onto the two part epilogue]

The knights had everyone gather in the throne room. Guests that were already present were taken to their seats. The last to arrive late were Sunrise and Rush. Both seated at the front row with all Indigo's personal guests. Those who missed their chance or chose not to come had lost their chance once the throne room doors were closed. Sapphire had Mina  swap seats with Ruby. That way, she was at the end of the aisle.  For their plan to work, Talia had to stay gone. Cosmo said she could come back and use the loophole in the contract for temporary visitation. They had to ensure that Mina took her place and soon.

There was no music but that made sense. It was just them being told to stay comfortable as the royal family walked in first. Lilac and Crimson with Pearl, Luna and Rosa following to take their seats last. Since the old rulers had stepped down and left. There was just a random man up in front of the thrones. Dressed nice enough to do the ceremony itself.

"Friends, family and honored guests. We have gathered here today..."

"Alright, the plan is simple. Once they take notice that she is gone. Gently push Mina out of her chair," Sapphire whispered to Ruby as the speaker commented about how kind and caring their future ruler already proved to be. 

"I can be gentle," Ruby whispered back, seeing her look. "I can. Honest."

"I know you can but you don't always keep your strength in check. Keep it in check this time. Okay?"

Ruby leaned back as the set of doors to the left opened. Indigo walked in. Following the carpet and standing at the altar with his arms crossed. He didn't look thrilled, which means he was under the assumption that Talia was still his bride-to-be. Then the doors to the right were looked at. Everyone waited in silence. When they didn't open, knights were sent to find the bride. Papaya instantly looked at Sapphire and Ruby. Amethyst put her head in her hands with Amber just holding her forehead and shaking her head.

Ruby, Sapphire, Verdant, Onyx, Spectre, Cosmo and Garnet all proudly sat. Their backs straight at what was happening. The knights came back and whispered that they found the broken quill in the garden. Garnet covered a smirk as Indigo looked at the crowd. More specifically; them, with a knowing, thankful look.

"Due to unfortunate circumstances, it appears Talia has forfeited her role as Queen. Which brings us to a problem. The contract the Crown Prince has states he must have a wife. Otherwise, he cannot rule. Will any step forward and claim this spot?"

Ruby got nudged by Sapphire and he then gently pushed Mina from her chair to her feet into the aisle. The man smiled at her.

"Princess Mina, thank you for this."

"W..wait..." She turned red. "I wasn't meant to...surely I am not allowed?"

"Princess Talia forfeited this right. As the second choice, it automatically and by technicality goes to you," Cosmo spoke up. "Therefore, you have all the rights to walk forward and claim it."

"Lady Cosmo is correct. Please, come forth and claim what is now yours."

Indigo turned red as she walked up and stood by his side. Even her face was completely red. Hands held together tightly.

"I promise I didn't plan this," Mina whispered to him.

He nodded as both spotted the crowns his parents once wore in front of them. Both bowed their heads.

"You bow as Prince and Princess. You rise King and Queen, your hands and fates will be forever bound."

Mina and Indigo stood up to their full height as the crowd of friends and guests cheered.

"As tradition states....a q...oh, seems Princess Mina already has a quill. Then allow me to present their majesties, King Indigo and Queen Mina, Rulers of the Christmas Kingdom!"

Everyone stood, clapping and cheering for them. Mina carefully hooked an arm around Indigo's.

"We won't make you wait any longer for the food. Please, enjoy." She smiled as everyone kept cheering.

Indigo walked with her down the carpet leading to the Reception Hall. His family and friends instantly following with everyone else either choosing to leave or help store the chairs away.

"Someone is a happy boy," Garnet quipped, spotting Indi's tail wagging as she hovered.

He playful swiped at them. Garnet just laughed.

"Of course he is happy. These two are super cute. Plus, it's easy to tell Mina cares for him," Kiks fixed up her dress.

"Your dress is super cute, Kiks. Where did you get it from?" Sapphire pulled her into a hug.

"Mina lent it to me. She even helped with my quills," Kiks s made sure to keep the accessories tightly on. "I was told to keep it but I will probably just leave it in her room after."

"They are not even listening," Ruby motioned to Indi and Mina.

"They aren't. He looks so happy. Can you imagine if Talia had interrupted that? I would have...." Sapphire made a crushing motion.

"We all would have jumped her. Thank Gaia she hasn't come back," Spectre whispered. "Are you guys staying one more night?"

"I got places to be," Rush looked at them. "Eggman to beat up, Meh Burgers to eat, Ladies to flirt with and such. Gonna dance and have some fun then head out. Also, what did you do to this Talia? Who is she?"

"The worst hedgehog in the universe," Ruby grumbled. "And we fight villains who have done worse yet she is ranked amongst them."

"I should have punched her," Sapphire whispered. "I refuse to ruin my dress."

"Could have just said the blood was a part of it," Onyx told her. "And it would have blended in anyways."

Mina looked back at them and smiled, "thank you. For whatever you did."

Indigo looked back as he opened the doors for them. He had Mina walk in first and followed her. The rest joined or went home. Rush stayed long enough to have a few drinks, enjoy some dancing with Bleu and other friends and of course. Since Skylar was there. He has to cause a scene with the bird. Nothing new to group though. They watched as the two bickered like always. And just as it was getting to the boiling point, Rush excused himself. Leaving Skylar on edge and annoyed while laughing about how serious he was.

"Indi! My buddy!" He put an arm around him. "Great party and all but I gotta get."

'Here.' Indigo held a key up. 'It's linked to my Throne Room. It's a teleporter. Turn it and you'll open a portal directly here. Come by even if I am not home. I know you like the snacks here.'

Rush took it, "I am not one to turn down free snacks! I am gonna take full advantage of this!" He tossed it like a ball for a few seconds. "Thanks buddy. Have fun!"

Rush was gone in seconds. He watched him before heading outside. Everyone inside was having fun and enjoying the food. Rush got the second gift and headed home after having a blast being himself. Bleu was waving fun with other friends, including Sunrise. They were a little late but he was happy to see them. Talia was missing and Mina was at his side in her stead. Things were well. They were fine.

His ears folded back. So why the hell did it not feel fine? His father, the meeting, Talia and her antics, the screaming, the delays, and the constant stress of ensuring everyone had everything in line. To top it off, being lectured by his own dad over the direction he chose to go. Why the hell did he even bother at this point? He thought his dad would be proud of him. He made this kingdom into a medical paradise. A place everyone was cared for and thrived. They had food and knowledge. Cures...all of it and it helped across the Multiverse!

"Chaos, Indi! Where did I go wrong?!"

"Indi?"

He turned to see Kiks. She looked beautiful in her gown. He could see past her to the ballroom full of people. Only a few seemed to be missing. Rush had already left but only his personal guests and their plus ones seemed to stay. Even Flare came. He was talking with Spectre. Bleu was dancing with Jasper and Sweetie. No shoes but he was a kid.

'You should be enjoying the party'

"So should you," Kiks walked closer. "I know how difficult it's been for you. Come dance with us. I promise, Blitz doesn't bite. Nor do our other siblings."

Indigo mentally laughed. He bit, but only villains and those deserved it. How could he said no? She had a point. He warned this. With a hand over his heart and a bow of his head, he followed her back in. It was just him, Kiks and Blitz at first. Sapphire and Verdant joined a few seconds later. At some point, Mina joined in. He pulled Sunrise into their group. Kiks dragged Skylar and Aurum in next. Gail joined on her own. It was a lot of fun. The most he had since planning this entire thing.

With the stars fully out though, the night has to end and some guests chose to leave with their gifts. Bleu, Sunrise, Jasper, Sweetie, Amethyst and Moonlily chose to go home. Sapphire's Amethyst, Garnet and Amber chose to go home too.

"So, it said we have one more minor event? Where is it? When is it?" Sapphire grinned. "Tonight? Tomorrow?"

'Tomorrow. I need a break. This was a lot.'

"Guess I am staying then," Sapphire looked at Ruby and Papaya.

"I think I'll head home," Papaya grabbed her gifts. "I had a lot of fun though."

She hugged Indi and left. He looked at the others. They stayed still.

'See you all tomorrow?'

"Oh yeah! We aren't missing it!" Sapphire hugged him.

Aurum walked up with Verdant, "I'm afraid I must take my leave." She grabbed her gifts. "I saw your plan. Will you be ready?"

"Ready?" Ruby looked at Aurum and then at Indigo.

"It's nothing dangerous. Just a sentimental visit. I'll have to see her another time. If that's okay?"

'Yeah. She'd like that' Indigo hugged her.

She hugged back, "then until next time. Just know, she is proud of you."

"I'm con-" Ruby got smacked slightly.

"I can't wait to meet her," Sapphire caught on. "Let's get some sleep everyone."

Aurum let go of Indi as the others left the Reception Hall. Leaving him, Aurum, Verdant, Lilac, Crimson, his sisters and Mina.

"Hey, before I got home. Can I bring Cass, Mom, and Sunny for a visit? They would love to see the gardens. Mom and Sunny especially. Cass will just love the place in general," Verdant took his gifts.

'Course! The door is always open. Even when I am not home'

"Thanks dude. I had a lot of fun. Next time, I'll bring my family around for a visit."

The two left. Lilac and hugged on him with his sisters joining. Crimson walked up to Mina.

"I knew you were a good match for my Indi when we met. Welcome to the family, Mina." Crimson held a hand out.

"It's an honor to be in it. I promise to cherish your son," She shook his hand.

"Good. I'll throw up like I threw Talia if you don't." He warned her.

Mina laughed, "noted, but you won't have to worry. I adore him." She looked over to see Lilac fussing over Indigo's quills. "I love him so much."

"I can tell you do. Like my Lilac, I adore the ground she walks on." Crimson watched his beloved fuss over their boy.

"Goodness, look at me. I should turn in. Lots to do." Mina got their attention. "I will begin the process to move in tomorrow. Goodnight Indi."

Mina walked out. Indigo watched and then looked at Lilac and Crimson. He made a Hoglet noise as he hugged his mom.

"Oh my baby boy and baby girls must be exhausted," Lilac pulled Pearl, Luna and Rosa into a hug. "Crimy?"

"Let's get the kiddos to bed," He walked over. "It's been a long day for you all. You need at least eight hours."

Coronation Ceremony: Epilogue pt 1

[next part, well...I'll be having fun]

Day one of being king and it still felt unreal. All the chaos of yesterday, the madness and the utter stress of it all. It felt unreal but it was. He could wear his coronet but now, the crown Sonic wore was placed with his normal attire. Nothing flashy but it was set in a comfortable style. His mom and dad took his sisters home last night. His mom needed to rest up and his sisters needed to get away from this place. They didn't need the key gifts. His dad had a Dimensional Jumper to come and go as they pleased. Mina was busy moving in.

The remaining guests were Sapphire, Ruby, Skylar, Aria, Gail, Spectre, Cosmo and Kiks. He needed to see who wanted to come and who was gonna head home.

"Bambino!" Aria hugging him got his attention.

"Momma, you should knock," Skylar sighed as he walked in with Gail. "Congratulations, bro. Sorry for leaving so early but the racing season is a go. Momma is exhausted and Gail needs to de-stress."

Aria cooed and fussed over him. Telling him she made plenty of food just now for him to heat up. Then told him to come for a visit whenever he wanted.

'I promise to do that, Aria. And it's okay, oh before you go.' Indigo pointed to a single bag. 'inside is a golden quill cuff but it can be put anywhere. It has a chain so you can attach whatever you want. One for each of you. The other is a Teleporter Key. It's linked directly to the throne room. Turn and it will open a portal as often as you wish. It runs on Chaos Energy.'

Skylar picked the bag up, "heh, momma may use this to her advantage, y'know that right?"

'I expected that' He got pulled into a tight hug as she thanked him for the fun evening.

"Momma, come on. Where do you plan to take the others anyway? Is Rush gonna come?"

'Rush is fun but I won't put him through that unless he wants to. I would like him to meet....' He faltered for a moment. 'my mom but that's on his time. The others seem to want to go but if they back out, that's okay.'

"Well, I'd like to one day. Pretty sure my mom would too. For now, we shall be taking our leave. Ready momma? Sis?"

"Been ready. Home sounds so nice," Gail smiled as Aria let go of Indi. "Yesterday was a lot of fun. Thank you for the invitation!"

He waved to her and Aria, 'Take care'

"Bambino," Aria pointed at him and told him to do the same.

When she was gone, He stood up and headed outside the workshop. The front door was closed behind Skylar and his family. It was quiet but not for long.

"Indi," Sapphire skated in and pulled him into a hug. "Morning."

"Morning Indi, where to?" Ruby popped right in front of him.

"Wait for me!" Kiks ran in. "Some of us aren't as fast!"

Spectre and Cosmo walked in behind her.

"I have an idea of where we are going," Sapphire felt the quill and looked at him. "You sure about this?"

He nodded. Ruby stretched as Spectre, Cosmo and Kiks grabbed on. Sapphire held Indi in one arm and grabbed her brother's arm with the other.

"Seaside?" Ruby looked at Saph. She nodded. "Okay."

They all stood on the beach now. The sun is shining down on them. The water was flowing in and out as it always did. It was the only sound around them. Not a single bird could be heard. No sounds of life outside them and the water itself. A dead island. Sapphire held him closer. Cosmo was the first to take a step to the forest. Scanners went insane as she tried to find some source of life or sound.

"There is nothing here," Cosmo looked at them. "Nothing is here."

"Nothing? Not even a bird?" Spectre walked over to her.

"Nothing. Its empty. Void of life." She looked at him. "Like a grave."

"It feels like one," Kiks commented.

"That's cause it is one," Sapphire held onto Indigo. "Whenever you are ready."

"I take it...the quill?" Ruby looked at her.

Sapphire took a deep breath and let it out, "yes. I saw pieces. The pain and loss still lingers. She is here." She looked at Ruby. "We're meeting her."

He nodded, "right. Whenever you are ready, little bro."

Indigo wasn't ready but he had a plan. He needed to see it through. Maybe then, he could finally face it. Nothing could ever live here but he could make it easier on those who came here. He didn't want to always ignore this place. Especially if he wanted to introduce his mom to his found family. Chaos knows, she is probably not resting well with how her partners were acting towards the loss.

"Not even the plants are thriving..." Cosmo picked a sample. "They are dying."

"From that virus or something else?" Spectre still stood by her.

"No virus, but the land isn't stable anymore. It's not sinking but life can't be sustainable here anymore." Cosmo looked at Spectre. "It's safe here."

"Good to know," The chameleon looked around in the woods. "Hearing nothing but the ocean is terrifying."

Indigo walked out of Sapphire's arms and headed towards the woods. The twins were at his side with Spectre, Cosmo and Kiks not far behind. They took the overgrown path. When they were far enough from the ocean, the sound was gone. It was just their steps.

"I don't like how quiet it is," Ruby looked around. "Is this where it happened?"

Indigo stopped and looked down the route. Ears folded back.  If he could see ghosts, then this would be where he would see her. He made the sound a Hoglet would make again. A habit he just could never break. Sapphire answered that call and hugged him.

"We're here." She held him close. "We're right here. We don't have to go."

"We can meet her another time," Ruby looked at him.

'I'll  never do this then.' He looked at Ruby. 'I want to do this.'

"We're right here," Kiks grabbed his hand.

He took a deep breath, held it and released it. Gripping Kiks and Sapphire by the hand like a life line. Then walking down the grown over path. The others followed. It was still so quiet. Up until the reached a clearing where the sun shined. A river lazily passing through to split the land so it was deep enough to swim for kids. A couple flowers growing where he had found her. It was ironic that they were pink and only growing in that one section in the entire area. His gaze had them staring at them.

"Hey, there she is." Sapphire hugged him. "Hi Amy. Names Sapphire, this is Ruby, my twin."

"I'm Kiks."

"I am Spectre and that's Cosmo. It's nice to meet you. Indi told us all about you."

"I know we didn't meet officially during the tournament but it's nice to meet you now. I promise we are taking care of Indigo." Sapphire nuzzled Indi.

He leaned against her.

"We promise to keep him an eye on him," Ruby ruffled Indi's quills. "And keep his head clear."

"It was nice to see you again," Sapphire still held onto Indi as she rocked back and forth. "It's wonderful to see you again, Ms. Amy."

"I never got to meet you, but I can tell Indi loves you dearly," Kiks looks at Indigo. "Thank you for letting us meet her."

Spectre looked at Indigo, "I am glad you have a place to see her. Even if it's small, it's quite beautiful."

"Did you have something else to do here?"

Indigo looked at them, 'I wanted to give these to the others here as I guess some weird way of mom blessing them I guess. Sorry. It's...stupid.'

"No, we get it. It's like your mom giving us permission to take... whatever it is you have made to keep, right?" Cosmo put her hands together. "I get it."

Indigo pulled out the gift boxes from his quills and held them up to each one, 'a golden quill cuff and a teleporter key. It's the in Chaos Energy and linked directly to my throne room. No matter the circumstances stances, it will work'

The opened the boxes and saw the two items inside. All similar in style. Sapphire closed her box and hugged Indi.

"Thank you Indi." Sapphire held onto him.

"Thanks man. Should we ever be in trouble, then I'll definitely be using this." Ruby closed his box.

"Thank you. This will save so many lives when used right." Spectre closed the box he held.

"Agreed," Cosmo put hers in her stomach. "I am glad to have it."

"And it's easily charged too," Sapphire nodded. "We should get back. I am glad we got to meet her. I am sure others will love to as well."

"Yeah, but when that does happen. We'll be here to help," Ruby ruffled Indi's quills. "Just so it's easier on you."

"Yeah, plus if it's okay. Maybe we can have a picnic here," Kiks offered.

Indi looked at her.

"Bring a blanket, go for a swim if we want, enjoy the sun..." Kiks laughed.

"Oh, I can collect samples!" Cosmo clapped her hands together.

"Perhaps we can help by replanting some fresh life here too if you can solve the mystery to the dying soil," Spectre added.

"Yeah! Make it so it can be lived on!" Kiks cheered. "The animals may even come back!"

Sapphire pulled Indi close again, "I feel that," She whispered to him. "Maybe a picnic in the future may help you out too. It won't be the same but it'll be with family, right?"

He smiled at her, 'I'm about to cry. Momma wanted that.'

"Hey guys, let's make it so everyone can come." Ruby looked at the trio. Not just us. We gotta bring everyone! Right sis?"

"Oh yeah! Oh, V can bring Sunny and Cass!" Sapphire snapped her fingers. "And Aurum for sure can come!"

"Oh, this will be fun!" Kiks cheered.

Indigo let them go ahead. He glanced back at the patch of pink flowers.

"You coming?" Saph looked at him.

He nodded and walked by her. She looked back and then followed too. No one noticed the Blue Lady Beetle land at the center of the pink flower patch.

The Bad News

[Indi lost another parent but to old age. Sonic and Amy are dead in my universe]

It was a normal morning for his family. Mina and him had breakfast with the twins. Then let them run amuck with them chasing them. Once he was called though, Mina took over their care. He was dealing with some issues about a portal that got seen on Seaside Island. Some multiverse Eggman had come through. He didn't stay due to the ruins but the spies said he figured this world was empty before leaving. For now, he had them send out more spies to keep an eye out for this Eggman.

As for the rest of the news, they mentioned some forbidden sense of dread. Not just because of Eggman but something else. They suggested cutting their dimension off if possible. He'd love that idea but he wasn't sure how to do that. It wasn't like his Sonic was a threat. He was a broken, retired hero living in seclusion. They asked if there was anything he could do. Indigo never got to answer. A cold snap from his father's quill struck him. It was like the connection was just suddenly gone.

"Your majesty?" Gabriel looked at him. "What ails you?"

Indigo slowly reached up to Sonic's quill. There was no power from it. He ran to his workshop and up to his room. Gabriel was going to follow. Indigo stood before the mirror. His mother's quill when she died was dark pink. His father's quill was no longer light blue. It was dark blue. He died. How?! How did he die?! Did he get sick?! If so, with what?! When!?

"Your majesty!" Gabriel entered the room. "What is going on?"

'my father died...'

"That is absurd. He is on an island, sire." His knight said as he walked up to him.

'I felt it! The connection! It's gone! The power the quill has is gone! Look at it! Y'know how this connection works!'

Gabriel saw the dark blue quill and stared, "...I...I am so sorry for your loss, your majesty..."

"INDIGO!"

He ran down the stairs and back into the throne room. His pap stood there. Sonic in his arms, wrapped up in a blanket. No aging present but lots of grey quills on his father. Indigo walked up. It was clear what he wanted to have happened. He wasn't going to wait either.

'Prepare to burn the Duke's body,' He looked at the knights.

They bowed and ran to do as asked. Shadow didn't say anything. He stood still. Cold, empty red eyes staring down at the body he held. Indigo held his hands together as his ears folded back. Even if they had grown apart. Sonic loved them as best as he could.

"I'm sorry I came home with this but once he is with Amy then I will not be staying," Shadow told him. "I can't do this anymore, Indigo. I can't watch as others die while I never age fast enough."

He spotted the door to the throne room shut quickly. He was used to being disappointed by Shadow at this point. So why did it hurt so much still. Indigo took a shaking breath in and nodded. Holding back tears as the knights returned. One had a torch. Shadow handed Indigo a piece of Sonic's shirt to bury in the crypt with the rest. Another knight took a horse and rode into town. A black flag held in the air. He stood and watched Shadow place Sonic on a stack of hay sticks with the old cape he once wore covering the top.

Mina didn't arrive right away and when she did. She was inn a black dress with his twins dressed all in black. He was quick to dash to his room and change into black clothes. Returning to his spot next to her, hands holding Sonic's shirt tightly. Shadow stood close to the pure as it was lit. A heavy silence fell over the city. Black flags were raised with people slowly walking into the courtyard. Dressed in black and forming a circle around the pyre. It was quiet as the courtyard filled with others forming a line through the streets. Heads down, candles lit and held in their hands.

"Sunday mornings were your favorite. You used to meet them down on Ruins Road. You put your quills down like you were famous. Even if it was only for a race you'd win. Now, Sunday mornings we'll just sleep in. It's like you buried our love with you.. we'll be screaming at the skies, asking how they could do this. Because we don't know what else to do"

Indigo had to keep his composure when some began to sing the funeral song they sang for his mom. Mina pulled his hand into hers and squeezed it. His kids didnt cry. They didn't know these people. He wouldn't reprimand them for it but they were behaving.

"We'll still be holding on to everything that's dead and gone. We don't want to say goodbye because this one means forever. Now you're in the stars and six feet never felt so far. Here we are alone between the heavens and the embers. Oh it hurts so much for a million different reasons. You took the best of our hearts and left the rest in pieces."

Shadow held his composure as Indigo and Mina began to walk from the doors to the pyre. From there, they moved with their kids following. Passing the pyre and heading through the crowd. Sonic's shirt on display as they began to go through the town. The sing and many others joining the procession. Their heads remained down with black flags on doors and roofs.

"Digging through our old birthday letters. A single ring sits in a box. I don't think that we could ever find a way to spend it. Even if it's the last ring that we got. Oh, we're still holding on to everything that's dead and gone. We don't want to say goodbye because this one means forever. Now you're in the stars and six feet never felt so far. Here we are alone between the heavens and the embers."

Indigo hated this song. It was the one song in his entire life that never brought him joy. A reminder of everything he lost. With just one more added to that ever growing list. Even knowing his pops would live forever. Knowing he was the same way. This list would never stopped growing. It would be endless and he hated this song for being attached to it.

"Oh, it hurts so much for a million different reasons. You took the best of hearts and left the rest in pieces."

The people behind him began to join in. Singing "we're still holding on, holding on" over and over. Even as they entered the graveyard. Keeping the tune going as he walked up and unsealed the crypt of items. Spotting the pink ribbon his mother once wore. He knew where to put his father's shirt. He carefully placed the shirt under the ribbon. Having the crypt closed and resealed. Somehow, keeping himself in check despite wanting to break.

"We're still holding on to everything that's dead and gone. We don't want to say goodbye because this one means forever. Now you're in the stars and six feet never felt so far. Here we are alone between the heavens and the embers."

Mina pulled him close to her.

"Oh, it hurts so much for a million different reasons. You took the best of our hearts...and left the rest in pieces."

Everyone slowly filed away. Keeping the candles lit as they returned home. Mina had to pull Indigo with her. The kids helping her by carefully tugging on his pants. The kingdom fell quiet. Windows were shut with the curtains drawn. Stalls closed with no life in sight. Even as they entered the courtyard. The pyre was being guarded by knights but Shadow was gone. Mina scoffed. She told a knight to handle Sonic's body. She would be handling any guests until the king could handle company. Even if they were family, they had to go through her.

They nodded and let her take the king inside. The doors shut and they kept their heads down. Letting silence fill the kingdom.
