How did you get into RP?:

Oooh, uh, about a year and a half ago before there was really any Marvel RP, I saw a Captain America ask blog, so then I was searching for a Thor one, couldn't find it, so I just made one. Yes, I was an ask blog /sigh. After that, I noticed a community, got involved, and yup. Thor is still active, I'm happy to say, but I guess a year isn't very long either to be RPing :|

| The line of Durin cannot be so easily broken |

Night was falling on the camp, everyone doing as instructed by Thorin to ensure everyone was doing their part and looking out for one another. It was always a sound plan and it worked for everyone. Giving Fíli and Kíli the first watch, the elder brother could see Kíli was exhausted from the day's travels and just sent him off to sleep, for Fíli was feeling just the opposite, wide awake in his own thoughts.

As the younger dwarf sat over a large boulder, looking into the night, having a moment to himself and his pipe, he noticed Thorin off walking towards the wood. Hopping off his rock, Fíli began walking himself over to his uncle and just glanced over curiously to him, wondering why he was still awake. 

"I thought y'were having me do th'first watch," he tried to joke with him.

| The father that never was. |

They were times of happiness. The dwarves and their home, their new home, were no dragons nor beasts would harm them. Walls built higher, armies greater in number, and all the fruits of the lands they could hope for.

In these new times, began new families, wealth, and prosperity for all. The line of Durin was no different and the sister of the mighty Thorin would have felt these evolving tides as well. Dís, mother of two, the brothers Fíli and Kíli, had felt the winds of change as love found her in the days of rebuild.

It was that before Dís appeared before him, in the market where he dropped the load from the caverns deep to a local merchant. Minding his manners, he greeted the lass, as she was at the time for her age. It was instant did she feel a connection to him.

Upon a few meetings and nights alone, Dís rushed to the market where she would find her beloved blond dwarf carrying cargo from his shift. She was happy, so she thought, and she thought he too, felt the same.

"I bring news this day, my love," she spoke quietly into his ear. Intrigued, he would ask her of what sort of matters, keeping her smile wide across her lips. "I am with child, and he is certainly yours to call your own."

But none of these words were anything he wanted to hear. He was a busy dwarf, far too busy to have a care for a child. He wasn't even comfortable with the idea of her calling him love. Love was something he had for the job, the blood, the sweat, and the reward. Hardly, does a dwarf love another past his own wants and needs.

In few words whispered to her ear, he turned himself away from her and left. 

It was only a year before the handsome blond dwarf would find Dís again. Perhaps, he had been wrong on the matter. In meeting her with Fíli in her arms, he took the lad into his own and saw the tuft of hair in the same shade of blond. Maybe... maybe he could love the boy and the woman. Perhaps having a family wasn't out of the question.

Four years later, the fights, sleeping in the inns, and not alone with the company he longed for, and perhaps even Thorin having to step in to stop the madness between them, the blond dwarf had made his last turn to the door. He couldn't deal with this life he never wanted.

"But--you can't go! Fíli is only but five years and--" Dís paused again, her eyes tearing up, afraid to speak the news again of a reaction she had only learned to cope with so recently. "--There is another on the way."

This news did nothing. He only solidified for him that he couldn't be the dwarf a lady of Durin could need. He left, without anything but the clothes on his back and an apple in hand. 

Fíli watched at the top of the stairs hugging his knees, trying his best not to cry by practicing a braid in his hair over and over again, only making a knot of things and painfully tugging at it for his thoughts to linger on the hair over loosing someone who didn't even want him.

What did he do wrong? Did he cry too much? Ask too many questions? Table manners that bad? He was only four after all, how much harm could he do?

After Kíli was born, Dís moved back in with her family, for no longer could she manage two boys on her own. There were nights when she would cry, and a few friends and hand maidens would be at her side, but it was Thorin that met with the boys, now nine and four years and asked them to follow him to his workshop.

Fíli rarely saw his uncle, only in passings some days and Kíli perhaps wouldn't remember him no matter how many times he would be told of who he was. Thorin had been in and out of their lives like wind through a window frame, at times, Thorin would see the reflection of the bastard that left them for Dís to deal with alone. But no longer, he told himself.

"C'mere laddies," he said in his baratone voice. Did they do something wrong? Kíli pulled at Fíli's sleeve, in which normally he would've pushed him away, but seeing they were both in the same predicament, Fíli just took his hand and squeezed it. 

What had they done wrong now?

Thorin, looking down without smile nor any expression at all, knelt to their height and gave a glaring eye into theirs. "You listen to me now, boys, there are going to be a few chances around here." Kíli squeezed tighter. "You can't grow up without someone to look after you. Your mother needs time to herself and heal. So..." he paused, resting a hand on both their shoulders. It seemed like forever before he spoke a word, Fíli's heart pounding in his ears. What punishment would he have now? What fate would his uncle give them now?

"So, I'm going to be your father now," he finally spoke, his words quiet, soft, the strong voice replaced by gentle words.

It took a moment to register what Thorin offered to him. Kíli, too young to understand what it's like to have one, then have him ripped away from him without knowing why, just wanting to do anything to bring him back. Fíli thought he never would have that again.

Letting go of his younger brother, he jumped forward at Thorin, wrapping his arms tight  around his neck. Thorin, uncle Thorin, now offered him what he dreamed about for years. A chance to have a protector, a guide, a mentor. And the tears that he choked on for many years finally came pouring from him like an untamed river. 

Thorin paused a moment. This would be as new to him as it is for the boys, the first lesson in being to comfort a crying child. Of course, Kíli not wanting to be left out, he ran for Thorin's side and hugged him. Not sure why, but he knew it felt right all the same. It took a moment to register for Thorin to hug the boys back, but he did, closing his eyes as he took in the radiating heat coming from the two small bodies that clung to him. 

Between the heavy panting and tears, Fíli finally calmed with the hug in return, to only bury his head into Thorin's beard and whispered only loud enough for the three of them to hear, "I love you."

Kíli, once again, chimed in as well, "I love y'too."

Thorin's heart, nearly exploding from his chest, couldn't stop the smile that formed on his lips as he brought in the boys closer. "And I promise to love you both as my own."

That's all that was needed to be said. That was all that needed to be done. And ever since, did Thorin play the role better than the brother's could have known.
