dire news

Fíli felt like it was panic or fear he should be fighting with, his head racing with questions and doubts - but his heart was calm and so were his thoughts. Heavy with grief and sorrow, yes, but calm nonetheless. There were no question, no DENIAL. There had been the shock of hearing the news, but it had only carried him through the first painful minutes. Afterwards, cruel realisation had set in, filling him with the silent terror only murders could feel, numbing every other emotion. His mother had died, long before her time, and he knew exactly why. He had killed her; signed her death warrant; sacrificed her for another. He had not done it willingly, but that didn't wash her blood off his hands. NECROMANCY, sorcery - nothing good could ever come of them; hadn't Balin always told them? If only he had listened. Fíli had known that his deal with the sorceres had been a double-edged sword, but he had not anticipated its catch to be this. One life for another - and he had been so sure that the sorceress would take his in return to bring Kíli back from the dead. He had waited for it, day after day, wondering how it would be taken from him, and then the news of the king's sister, his beloved mother, had reached his ears. Fíli couldn't bear the thought of anyone but him telling his little brother of their mother's passing, so he made his way to the area that had once served as training ground for the soldiers. Most of it lay in RUINS now, but Kíli had started practicing there anyway. For a moment Fíli allowed himself to watch his brother draw his bow and shoot - as skilled as ever - and in his heart he knew that, however SHAMEFUL and foul his act had been, he would do it again. To save Kíli he would let the whole of Middle Earth perish. ❝ Kíli! Kíli.. take a break, will you? I need to tell you something, ❞ he called out, walking over to the younger prince, dreading his next words with every step he took. ❝ I bring DIRE news, brother. ❞
