Voice actor Kinryu Arimoto began his career in the mid-1960s. Since then, he lent his vocal talents to numerous anime. Perhaps his most famous role was the One Piece pirate Edward Newgate (aka “Whitebeard”). Today it was announced that Arimoto has passed away.

Besides Whitebeard, Arimoto voiced Commissioner Nogami in City Hunter, Patrick Zala in Gundam Seed and Tomomi Masaoka in Psycho-Pass, among many others. He also did a fair bit of Japanese dubbing for big Hollywood films.
Livedoor News reports that Arimoto passed away on February 1. He was 78 years old and had been suffering from esophageal cancer since last year. May he Rest In Peace.
on feburary 8th, kinryu arimoto - the voice actor of our beloved hibiki seigou had passed away from cancer. he was like a grandfather to every single one of us, told us to no matter how hard the fight gets, to never give up fighting.

It was announced today that Japanese voice actor Kinryu Arimoto, perhaps best known for his role as Whitebeard in the pirate anime One Piece, passed away at 77 after a battle with esophageal cancer. His death on February 1st was announced in a number of Japanese publications today, and it's been reported that he had been fighting cancer since last year. Funeral services have reportedly already been held, with a "farewell event" expected to take place in the future. In addition to his role as Whitebeard in One Piece, Arimoto provided voices in anime series like Psycho-Pass, Kill la Kill, Full Metal Alchemist, Elfen Lied, and City Hunter, among others. He also did work on the Japanese dubs of major motion pictures and TV series.
