Today’s Dog: The Kintamani Dog! This is an Indonesian breed with their own dog show in Bali every year, meant to showcase Bali’s only native breed. They were developed from street dogs over centuries, and since the early 20th century have remained bred exclusively within themselves. They’re called the Kintamani Dog because it is relatively common for them to be confined to the volcano of the same name to develop their characteristic white coat (although they can actually be black, beige, fawn, or brindle). Kintamani make alright guard dogs, but they’re exceptionally gentle compared to larger breeds.

Today’s Monkee: A Man Without a Dream! This track was released on Instant Replay (1969) and was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Bones Howe, eventual VP of Columbia Pictures, produced this track! It and Someday Man are the only tracks he’s produced for them (although he could technically still produce another). This is a Davy lead, the other musicians on the track are not affiliated with the group although many of them played on multiple songs over the years. A Man Without a Dream was recorded over three days: November 7th of 1968 and January 10th & 11th of 1969.
