Tonight the Performance Art world mourns the passing of Brian Routh aka Harry Kipper of the the iconic Kipper Kids. For those of us who grew up in the 80s, The Kipper Kids were a big deal performing their art in The Forbidden Zone and UHF. From 1981 - 1987, he was married to Performance Art icon, Karen Finley. (The other one is married to Bette Midler.) As we all get older, we keep losing our icons. Everyone: Keep making great art. The work you are doing now is inspiring our future generations. Keep growing, pushing boundaries, dare to do something different and new. We are the icons of tomorrow.

I’ve seen some pretty weird stuff over the years, but nothing has blown my mind quite like learning that one of these guys is Bette Midler’s husband.
