B. Favorite Jedi? Okay, I’m going to cheat just a little and say Obi-Wan Kenobi, because if you ask me who my favorite character is, I would say it’s a tie between Obi-Wan and Anakin, thus since Anakin is also a Jedi for much of his life, it could have been a struggle. But as a Jedi I love Obi-Wan more because I feel like he’s really one of those characters who show why the Jedi’s methods were so good. Obi-Wan is warm, caring, kind, he reaches out to Anakin multiple times to help him, he admits when he’s made a mistake, he says they all do, none of them would ever get anywhere if they weren’t allowed to make mistakes, but he believes in people despite that, because the Jedi mindset is all about growth and learning and striving. Obi-Wan Kenobi is also kind of an obnoxious asshole sometimes and it only makes me love him more. Yes, he’s deeply, fundamentally kind and compassionate, but he’s also 100% ready to cheerfully be a dick to someone if it’s funny. He blames himself, he struggles through some terrible PTSD and survivor’s guilt, but the thing that makes me love him is that Obi-Wan keeps doing the hard work of looking within and accepting his feelings and then letting go of what he needs to. He survives the genocide of his people, the loss of everyone he knew and loved, that he can’t even openly mourn them because the Empire will find him, and does it because he’s a good person, because the Jedi ways have taught him that fear must be confronted within yourself, that discipline will shore you up and help you defeat the dark side, and because even after everything, everything, even when Anakin became a Sith-- Obi-Wan still loved him. Obi-Wan forgave him. Obi-Wan helped him over to the other side. The kind of fortitude it takes to recognize someone’s actions for the horrors they are and still help them, to be compassionate to them, is the thing I cannot properly put into words for how much I admire him.
