Albert Anker - Children's school on the Kirchenfeld Bridge, 1900, oil on canvas Albrecht Samuel Anker (1831 – 1910) was a Swiss painter and illustrator. Renowned as the “the national painter of Switzerland," he is famous for his realistic depictions of everyday life in nineteenth century Switzerland. Anker studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Anker painted many of his works in a studio in his parents' attic. He frequently travelled to Italy and other European countries.
