The church grim is a ghost from English and Scandinavian folklore. They appear as black dogs, or small, dark-skinned people, and are said to guard churches and churchyards.
English church grims are said to enjoy the sound of bells ringing, while Scandinavian Kyrkogrims are the spirits of people who lived near the church and want to protect it.
