Synopsis: The daughter of Kai Azer and Paedyn Gray (Azer) meets an interesting boy on her sister’s 14th birthday. The interesting thing is…the boy is a prince from a kingdom that doesn’t quite get alone with hers.
I couldn’t stop thinking about last night. The moment replayed over and over in my head. How could I let myself be so vulnerable with a stranger, an enemy at that?
I barely ate my breakfast, only picking at it, slightly moving my blueberry pancakes. Even if my dad hates blueberries he still makes them for me.
There’s barely any servants at the castle due to my parents not feeling a need for them. And Maria and her family is kind of like friends who just so happen to work for us.
Maria nudges me on the arm to eat. “eat your food, you’re already skinny enough to make every girl in the kingdom jealous.” I smile, classic Maria. “No it’s not that it’s just…something is on my mind.” I say, resting my chin on the palm of my hand. “What is it?” She asks concerned. “Not what but who?”
“Oh I know. Boy problems? It must be the boy who was at Avena’s party or the one you snuck out to see last night.” My eyes widened. How did she know about that? “How do you—“ “girl you’re my childhood best friend. Of course I know you snuck out.” She looked to smug for just a misunderstanding. “I-I didn’t sneak out to see him!” “Oh so you weren’t romantically crying into his shoulder in the woods last night?” She asked knowingly.
“We just happened to find each other in the woods.” I explained. “It’s okay K, you know I can keep my lips sealed.” That was true, but still I’d be dead if my parents heard us. I sigh. “I swear we saw each other by accident. He was riding his horse, I was training my powers. He asked why I was training so hard and I cracked.” I explained.
“Ooh, so romantic, sounds like love.” She says, poking at my arm. I flushed red. “I don’t love him! I can barely tolerate anyone from Dor let alone it’s Prince.” I exclaimed. “Ok fine but his brother is HOT with a capital H.O.T.” She said. “Ooh, does Mari have a crush?” I tease her like she did to me.
“Yep!” She said confidently “but alas no princes look at the maids.” “Oh whatever shall you do?” I replied sarcastically. “But on a serious note K, he’s gotten you out of bed twice imagine what he would do in it.” I feel my cheeks heat. “What the hell, Mari?!” I yell. “What I’m only asking a innocent question, am I not?” “Shut up.” I lightly shove her and eat my pancakes as she laughs and leaves to clean the kitchen.
I finished eating then went to do my daily routine. In the middle of archery practice Avena came up to me. “Hey Ave, what do you need?” I ask, putting down my bow and arrow. Now looking at my shy sister, she seems more shy than normal. I frown seeing this since she normally tries to work on coming out of her shell
“I-I need some advice.” Avena pipes up. Advice? Why would she need advice from me? “And what advice would that be?” I ask. She fidgets with her fingers a little bit, her cheeks are slightly flushed, and she’s avoiding eye-contact at all costs.
“Well…you see, t-there’s this boy I met at my party. “ a boy? That’s what she came to me about? “So you needed boy advice?” My brows furrowed. “Y-yeah.” She stares at the ground. “Ave, you know I would love to help you, but I’m not the one you should go to for love advice. I haven’t even had a crush before.”
“But I heard you and Maria talking about a boy and you being in love.” My eyes widened “Avena, you got it wrong. Maria misunderstood the situation.” I explained with flushed cheeks. “Why are your cheeks red? Are you sick? Do you have a fever?” “Enough with the questions!” I snap, Avena visibly flinches. My anger quickly turns into remorse. “Look, I’m sorry, Ave. I didn’t mean to snap at you. It’s just embarrassing for me to talk about romance and all that stuff.” “It’s okay, kitty. I know you didn’t mean to yell.”
Avena leaves and I go back to training. I always loved archery. Ever since I was little mom taught me. She’d always laugh and say I was just like dad when I used to miss the target. Now I hit the bulls eye each time.
Another hobby of mine is art. I always loved painting the flowers in the garden or making flower crowns.
When we were kids, Maria, Avena, and I used to go to the garden and create flower crowns for each other. Peacefully and blissfully unaware of all the responsibilities we would have now.
After dinner I walked in the hallway to my room. When I Avena came to talk to me. “Hey, uhm Kit, I was kind of wondering if we could do a girls night. With you, me, and Maria like old times.” Avena asked. “Yes, I would love that. But, I have to do something important right now. When I’m done we can have a girls night.” “Oh, okay.” Avena shyly leaves my room.
Now, back into the woods I go. On my way out Maria gave me a knowing smirk. I would like to say that I’m just hoping to ride my horse, but I don’t have enough time to do that and leave without being noticed.
I ride my Estelle into the forest. The same exact spot I always go to secretly train. When I was younger I was only able to shock people. Now I leave slight burns on the trees. But it’s not enough. It will never be enough. I need to be stronger, more powerful.
Eventually during my session I hear the sound of a horse’s hooves trampling over leaves. As I know full well it’s not Estelle. And once again like last night my peace is ruined.
“Came back to distract me again?” I ask. “Come on princess, you and I both know I’m way more entertaining than training.” He remarked. Something about his remark makes me laugh. “Yeah right, watching petals fall off dahlias in the winter is more enjoyable than your company.” I retort.
“Careful princess, l might start thinking you like me.” He smirked. “And what makes you think I’d ever like an arrogant ass?” I ask. “You know, you’re kinda cute under the stars like this.” He says, staring at my eyes and face.
I scoff “You speak too much for someone with such a punchable face, it’s a shame it’s as pretty as it is punchable.”
He laughed “you’re funny, princess.” “Now move out of the way before you become my next power practice.” One little shock of voltage shoots the tree, although it’s not as big as I hoped it would be, I’m sure it made the point.
“Threatening me with static electricity?” My threat has the opposite effect on him as I hoped. Instead of running in fear he laughs in my face. The nerve of this imbecile.
“Look, I see through you, Theo. I know what your ulterior motives are.” I say, looking him dead in those gorgeous green eyes. He laughs in my face again, like I’m crazy for thinking he has ulterior motives.
“And what ‘ulterior motives’ would those be?” He asked, smirking down at me. “Don’t act dumb. I know you’re distracting me so that my powers remain weak. So that you can…I don’t know attack Ilya.” He smirks wider. “You really think that low of me do you?” I don’t understand how someone could hear an insult and smirk.
“Yes, I think that lowly of you. Your people tried to kill my mom and dad.” I explained. “Careful princess, I see a spark flickering. And that was over 20 years ago.” He said, looking amused by this. “So what?! They still almost killed them. And hate them to this day.” “So stuck in traditions,” he pokes my nose. “You ever heard of the saying ‘let the past be past’, little one?”
His stupid nickname for me ticks me off even more. “Tell that to your parents. And don’t call me little, you intolerable bastard.” I feel my emotions on high. I clenched my fist at my side. His eyes darkened when I mentioned his parents.
“Oh yeah, and remind me again whose mother killed the previous king Eric and queen Moyra?” He asked, fueling my fury. “Don’t talk about my family’s history like that.” I snapped “whose family betrayed Izram and stolen from them?”
He snapped. He pinned me to a tree. His tan hand clutching mine. I look at him, my gaze unwavering with fury. “You’re gonna learn, princess. And if you won’t learn on your own, I’ll make you learn it. Never talk about my family to me. Especially those sorry excuses for parents I have.” He whispered in my ear. Somehow his voice was quiet but firm.
The audacity the man has to insult my parents but get pissed the second I do the same. “Then don’t talk about my parents in a bad way. Especially my mother.” I snapped. He stared into my eyes, I stared into his. “She deserves it.” He said, and I lost it. Lightning struck from the sky that was clear merely seconds ago.
Three trees got struck but the lightning and fell. Theo notices and backs away from me, clearly surprised. “Holy hell, you did that?” He asked, as the lightning goes away. I’m looking down at my own hands wondering how I did that. Before I wasn’t able to inflict much damage with my powers. Just now lighting struck three trees and it was…my doing? “I-I think so. I don’t know.”
“How did you do that? I know you have powers and all but not enough to do that.” He gestures to the trees. “I guess you bring out the worst in me.” I smirk. “I’ll be seeing you again, Theo. For another session.” I get onto my horse and leave. I don’t know why I said that. Now he’ll think I want to see him. I do but only for training. That’s it.
By the time I get back to the castle Avena is passed out on the couch with flowers picked to make crowns. I guess our girl night will have to wait another time. I scoop my little sister in my arms just like old times and put her on her bed.
Before I get into my bed I take a look out at the clear sky. Remembering the lighting that I had created. I did that. He helped. Maybe.
