🚨FEARLESS ENDING SPOILERS!!!!
What if, just like Kitt's nickname is Kitty, Kai and Paedyn call Kit by the nickname Kitten.
What if one day, when Kai was with his daughter he accidentally called her Kitty out of habit.
What if he stood there in disbelief after the familiar but long unused nickname rolled out of his mouth. The sound of it so unbroken even after years of not being said.
What if he saw his daughter staring at him with such bright eyes at the use of the word she's never heard her father say before with such gentleness. His eyes tearing up, a lump forming on his throat from the breath he can't exchale. He just hugs his daughter before he starts breaking down in front of her.
Because his Kitty is gone, he is gone just like his A and his daughter will never know how special those nicknames are to him, how much it hurts to utter them sometimes knowing no one is answering back to them anymore.
He holds his daughter, not being able to call her by that nickname again because that is a piece of his brother that he cannot replace.
"No, not Kitty sweetheart. That's for your uncle, daddy made a mistake." He manages to say in a somewhat steady voice, eyes filled with tears he dares not shed in front of her.
"Uncle Kitty? Uncle in willow tree?"
"Yes," his voice slightly cracks, "yes your uncle Kitty in the willow tree. Mommy and daddy named you after him you know?"
"I'm Kitty too?"
"No darling, only he is Kitty. There is only one Kitty."
Kai hugs his daughter closer, only so she doesn't see his expression crack, the hurt all over his face.
"You know," he takes a shaky breath, voice a bit higher, "he would love calling you something. And if he is the first Kitty then you are... you are our Kitten."
"Kitten!"
"Yes Kitten. Your uncle Kitty would have loved to meet his little Kitten."
"Uncle is Kitty and I am Kitten!"
Kai tries to speak, but it's not his barely chocked voice he hears respond.
"Yes, you are Kitten. You both are."
Padeyn is there, a small smile tugging on her lips, eyes glossy with tears as she stares at them both.
She had walked over to them in soundless footsteps, as not to disturb. She reaches now pulling them both in her arms, cradling both their heads with each hand.
"Kitty would have loved seeing his Kai Pie together with his Kitten." A sob breaks from Paedyn's shoulder where Kai rests his head.
"Oh how he would have loved you honey, my A as well." She says this in a watery voice of her own.
And they stay there a moment, trying to fill the hollowness of loss with the pressence of each other. Their little family only missing a few members. Members that wait to meet them in the distant future. Other halfs waiting to be reunited.
And the little kitten goes to that willow tree to talk to daddy's kitty, she rests there as sleep claims her in the middle of explaining her nickname to him. She sleeps under the shade of a willow, resting place of an aunt and uncle she never had the chance to meet. She sleeps craddled in the embrace of her father's siblings, one that he so wishes to feel once more. She rests as the sun rays cover her, like a blanket woven by an aunt she will never know was oh so skilled with a needle, one that her mother wishes was never taken from her.
The kitten rests in the embrace of two different As and the kitty who's name she shared. The kitten rests welcomed by her family.
