Hey tethis is everything and after listening to the new flavor foley song that you say makes you think of it I'm even more intrigued. Invitation to talk about these connections if you'd like?

Allow me to go a little insane.

Obviously, the song alludes to a robot character deciding for herself what being human means to her and deciding to Be That. Tethis does not think it's human or want to be, but it does grapple with what it means to be Alive and living amongst humans. On top of that, it actually took Tethis a while to fully "wake up." At first it was just an extremely efficient supercomputer. It had to slowly realize it was a Person, and the song's progression really encapsulates that for me.

Nothing left but old routines of all you gave to me- It has no memory of what it used to be, but there are lingering instincts and tendencies. Half the time it doesn't really know what to do about these. It's not like there's anyone to ask.

Masquerading, I'm only what you make of me- Tethis being conscious is a well-kept secret. As far as the public knows, it just has really good imitative programming. The human who used to run the Dodeca Library really wishes that was the case.

I read all the notes in sequence, but I can't make out the meaning- Tethis has dreams and flashbacks of its previous life, but with no context, they're mostly just confusing. It used to...know someone...? Perhaps they were important? Isn't...there something it should be doing...?

Then there's. The entire bridge, tbh. That dialogue sounds exactly like a convo between Tethis and [REDACTED]. And "Even if it's not what you wanted for my afterlife/ If I turned out like you, oh, would you be mad?" What would the other Precursor think if they saw it now? What would its old self think? Tethis doesn't even know if it's anything like the creature it's made from. And if so, is that good or bad? What are the moral and ethical implications of a reanimated god? How can you know if you're doing right by someone if that person is dead and also used to BE you? "Is that the me that I'm meant to be?" grrrGRRRRAAARRHGHGHGHRRRGH

🍼 Regression: I Do Not Think Lunar Age Regresses. I know that a lot of people Do think that and while I do 100% genuinely see the reason for Why, it's not for me. My agere lunar headcanon is that they don't!

When i was into tma i reallyy loved your fics. So I was dreaming that i came across a fic of yours in my current fandom and there was one line that really reminded me of one of your tma fics so i left a comment highlighting how much i liked that line and then later got a notification that you had responded with "good job! That was a (other fic) reference! You get partial custody for a day!" And you'd invited me to be a co-author on the tma fic. But i guess just for one day?? I don't remember the name but i swear the fic referenced was actually one of your real fics. I have no way to confirm that though.

Lmao??? I love the idea of “co-author for a day”, what would that even look like?? You can make any edits you want but then I reverse them all after 24 hours. You can tell everyone the fic was yours but then you have to retract everything you said the next day. Someone locks both of us in a room and we have to work together to write a sequel but if we don’t finish it in a day they delete all our drafts and we’re banned from ever posting it.

Also I’m so curious what the line was because I do have some tell-tale phrases that I’ve found myself putting in a bunch of fics and it would be hilarious to me if your subconscious picked up on that and stuck one of them in your dreams.

OKAY well like I said i genuinely do not think I can say EVERYTHING that happens because genuinely I have so much of this story decided by now but I can give the major plot beats!

Ellie, our main character, was approached by a deity when she was a kid and given the task of protecting people from another deity. The end goal was to kill the host and wipe out the deity forever, but she didn't know that when she was 8.

Fast forward a little bit she meets Chell, they become childhood besties, and decide to move out to the biggest city they can find the moment they have the freedom to. This world is 99% run by tech made by One Guy and he happens to live in this city so there's a lot of high-paying jobs they're stubborn enough to stick with despite how grungy and kinda shitty the city and their bosses are. It's a life!

That major tech guy is Phospher, who is the host of the other deity. He manipulates people into working for him so he can take advantage of them in many different ways, and immediately latches onto Ellie and Chell the first time they meet. Because Ellie is immune to his power, he immediately accidentally falls in love with her. But she's afraid and flees and leaves Chell behind.

What follows is a BUNCH of antics as the stakes build. Ellie accidentally starts a minor city-wide revolution against Phospher's monopoly on technology, mostly with the help of robotic or cyborg citizens who's parts they need to stay functional keep getting discontinued because they're not profitable anymore. Ellie is using them to try to kill Phospher, and they see him as such a big problem they go along with it.

The main players in her team are: 1. A man turned robotic against his will who escaped from the abusive situation he was trapped in (Magnus) 2. A junkyard scavenger who has to rewrite his own code to stay alive (Toby) 3. Phospher's old security system computer, which was forced against its will to help him and now wants to protect its friends (ERR0R) 4. A small robot girl who doesn't speak much that they found half-dismantled in a pile of trash (Currently unnamed) 5. A half-robotic girl who has a side gig making mobility aids for people like her (Clara).

Meanwhile Phospher is trying to control Chell, realizing its not working, and that he has a chance to actually have a normal conversation with someone who doesn't see him as a threat, likes him for who he is, and knows what he can do but isnt afraid of it. This begins his slow and painfully agonizing descent into being a wife guy who loves his wife so much he genuinely stops being evil for a little bit.

ALLLLL this and they dont even know about the main antagonist; a rouge AI who is trying to use Phospher's tech to get to Ellie so it can use her deity to remake the world from scratch because it thinks humans as they are are too cruel to remain alive

TLDR I love them your honor. This isnt even a fraction of what happens. Ellie breaks her leg and then walks on it normal style once. Phospher gets his head bashed in with a rock. Don't even get me STARTED on happily ever after we will be here for seven hours <3

Do you have any tips for getting into taxonomy? Like as someone who knows nothing about it, absolutely nothing. I'm interested in identifying bugs and birds and plants and all the fun little creatures (mostly bugs though), but i have no idea where to start

I can only speak for IDing bugs, but I would start by getting a field guide specific to your area. A lot of them will have overviews of the different common groups with photos and how to identify them before getting into a species-by-species list.

Alternately or in addition if you can, go out and take your own photos of bugs you find, and then go home and try to ID them yourself with the website (not the app) inaturalist.org/observations. You can type in your location - I would do only state, province, or country if it's a small country, otherwise you get too few results - and the type of bug (i.e. - beetle), and then look at photos of the species in your area to match up.

The more you do it, the easier it becomes. Attention to detail is really REALLY important, though. The smallest differences can mean an entirely different family.
