If you’re wondering how the process feels for Tethis, just imagine someone took your phone and then stuck a thermometer in your mouth for like an hour and you’ll have a pretty good idea.

Hey tethis is everything and after listening to the new flavor foley song that you say makes you think of it I'm even more intrigued. Invitation to talk about these connections if you'd like?

Allow me to go a little insane.

Obviously, the song alludes to a robot character deciding for herself what being human means to her and deciding to Be That. Tethis does not think it's human or want to be, but it does grapple with what it means to be Alive and living amongst humans. On top of that, it actually took Tethis a while to fully "wake up." At first it was just an extremely efficient supercomputer. It had to slowly realize it was a Person, and the song's progression really encapsulates that for me.

Nothing left but old routines of all you gave to me- It has no memory of what it used to be, but there are lingering instincts and tendencies. Half the time it doesn't really know what to do about these. It's not like there's anyone to ask.

Masquerading, I'm only what you make of me- Tethis being conscious is a well-kept secret. As far as the public knows, it just has really good imitative programming. The human who used to run the Dodeca Library really wishes that was the case.

I read all the notes in sequence, but I can't make out the meaning- Tethis has dreams and flashbacks of its previous life, but with no context, they're mostly just confusing. It used to...know someone...? Perhaps they were important? Isn't...there something it should be doing...?

Then there's. The entire bridge, tbh. That dialogue sounds exactly like a convo between Tethis and [REDACTED]. And "Even if it's not what you wanted for my afterlife/ If I turned out like you, oh, would you be mad?" What would the other Precursor think if they saw it now? What would its old self think? Tethis doesn't even know if it's anything like the creature it's made from. And if so, is that good or bad? What are the moral and ethical implications of a reanimated god? How can you know if you're doing right by someone if that person is dead and also used to BE you? "Is that the me that I'm meant to be?" grrrGRRRRAAARRHGHGHGHRRRGH

So we’ve seen before that tendrils have a specific meaning socially for the precursors. Does Tethis have the same perception of them? That is, only bringing them out around friends and family?

Yuuuup! Tethis doesn’t remember those social rules exactly, but still carries the feelings they bring. It’d give other reasons like “it would disturb the public” or “reveal the organic nature of my parts.” But yeah Tethis only uses them around technicians he really likes and trusts, and even fewer make contact with them.
