46. …out of envy or jealousy.

Shouto isn’t a bad student. He doesn’t go out of his way and goes insane over his homework, but his grades are good enough to get by. He may seem bad by comparison, considering his best friends are in the top 5 of the class. Iida and Midoriya don’t mess around when it comes to their classes. And then there is his girlfriend, the absolute top of the class. He knows how smart the people in his life are. And it isn’t that he is stupid or anything, he is normal (sometimes he and Uraraka pair up in their study sessions just to remind themselves that their friends and significant others are the outliers.)

Yaoyorozu knows he isn’t an idiot. She knows he has his strengths. She admires him for other reasons and their relationship, both as partners and heroes in training, works, because they complement each other.

That all being said...

They’re in self-study now, so most of the class is chatting and laughing. Usually, Shouto would join Midoriya, Iida and Uraraka while Yaoyorozu either helped others or went over her homework with Jirou. Today, however, she shyly approached him and asked:

“Todoroki-san, may we study together?”

His heart heart clenched. They’ve been together for weeks now, but he can never get over how cute she is. 

“Sure,” he said. He wondered if his voice sounded as broken to her as it did to him. 

Uraraka and Midoriya always tell him he tends to not show what he’s really feeling, but it isn’t possible that it isn’t obvious to the world how weak he is when Yaoyorozu is around. 

How he blushes a bit when she smiles and sits by his side. 

Hell, he doesn’t even like studying, but he likes the way his classmates know to leave them alone so they can  study together. It’s such a couple thing to do and Shouto enjoys the moments they spend with their shoulders pressed together, sharing one book and scribbling away until...

“I really can’t figure this one out,” Yaoyorozu mumbles, tapping at the book with her pen.

Shouto squints at the book. Truth be told, he wasn’t really paying attention to the exercise, maybe he can...

Before Shouto can start reading, she grabs the book and stands. Wasn’t she asking for help...?

Yaoyorozu crosses the class and walks to... Bakugou. Shouto blinks in confusion as she calmly excuses herself and takes the seat Kirishima vacated to go mess around with Kaminari and Ashido. Yaoyorozu sits with Bakugou and shows him the question as though this is something normal to do. Shouto is aware that Bakugou finally surpassed Iida and is the no. 2 in grades now, but... What the hell? Since when Yaoyorozu is friends with Bakugou? Since when Bakugou helps others, other than Kirishima?

He watches as she gets confortable, not even flinching at Bakugou’s snappy answers. The two of them seem perfectly fine exchanging theories. 

Shouto glances at the back of the room, wondering if Kirishima isn’t going to interrupt them, but the red head seems completely distracted with whatever the hell Kaminari is saying. 

He turns back to Yaoyorozu and Bakugou. Bakugou takes her pen and starts scribling something on her notebook. Shouto stands. 

Right then, they hear the bell announcing lunch time... which is good, because he has no idea what he was planning to do. Either way, lunch means no more homework, right? He walks to Bakugou’s desk.

“Yaoyorozu-san, let’s go to the cafeteria,” he says.

Bakugou glares at him, annoyed that his line of thought got interrupted. Shouto glares back, which surprises both boys. He doesn’t usually get riled up by Bakugou’s shenanigans. 

“Ah, Todoroki-san, I’m sorry,” Yaoyorozu smiles sweetly. “Would you mind going ahead? Bakugou-san and I are almost done, I’ll join you in a minute.”

Shouto frowns. She didn’t notice anything. Of course she didn’t. She doesn’t have any idea how amazing she is or the effect she has on others. He can’t be mad at her, because... Well. He loves all of her, even that earnest side. The boy sighs. He’s being irrational, he knows, and he trusts her, for crying out loud. That being said...

“Fine,” Shouto says. Then he leans down and plants a kiss on her lips. “I’ll wait for you.”

Yaoyorozu’s cheeks become a lovely shade of crimson and he hears squeals behind them. They’re not keeping their relationship a secret, but they’re not big on the PDA. 

Regardless, there is only one person that was supposed to see that. He turns to Bakugou to make sure he got the message and is surprised to see the other boy smirking widely.

“Heh,” Bakugou scoffs. “So that’s your weakness, icy hot?”

Shouto feels himself blushing. Huffing, he turns around to leave. Damn annoying loud explosion bastard. 

Alas. So long he understands Yaoyorozu is Shouto’s and Shouto is hers, there is no problem.

Ah thank you so much, I did it because I was tired of people dismissing Todomomo as something made-up that didn’t have any base, when it’s one of the few relationships in shonen that has interactions and mutual respect and it’s more than just “she’s pretty, he is pretty they have to be together after a time skip” I really like that aspect of their friendship, it’s there if you connect the dots in between chapters. (just like Kirishima and Mina and Shouji and Tokoyami having all a background bond that later comes to be relevant and you think ‘did this come out of nowhere? no, it was there all along if you read their background interactions.)
