“I think, I think that he has suffered through so much and he is doing what he thinks is right. And in the end, it does better our city.”
“Are you advocating for this murdering vigilante justice, Ms. Versa?”
“All I know is that Frank Castle saved me that night from the Kitchen Irish. If he was who you’re are trying to make him out to be, he would have left me for dead. But he didn’t. And I am forever grateful for that.”

“Nothing you need to worry about, Lieberman.”
“Really? ‘Cause I’ve noticed you frequently check her photo blog, and don’ t think I haven’t heard that phone she gave you go off every once in a while. You texting her?”
“Like I said, its nothing. Drop it.”
“What is she to you, Frank?”
“Fine. You want to know? She’s family. She’s one of the few people that has stood by me through all this shit I call my life now and if anyone even has a thought about hurting her, they’re getting a bullet to the brain. Is that what you wanted to know? Huh?!”

So here is Frank and Vanessa, or their ship name Casa.
Their story goes that on the night that Frank was at the carousel, Vanessa was visiting it. She had taken the picture for the Bulletin when the article about the Dogs of Hell, Cartel and Kitchen Irish fight went down there that got Frank’s family killed. But then the Kitchen Irish shows up to take Frank, and Vanessa gets trapped when some of the KI see her and her camera. They take her and use her to make Frank talk about the missing money. After DD shows up and gets them out, they go to the graveyard and Frank basically spills his soul about his family.
Later when Nelson and Murdock have taken Frank on as a client, they go to Vanessa and ask her to be a witness for the defense, which she’s a little wary on at first but accepts. The District Attorney tries to rip into Vanessa, even going as far as accusing Vanessa of helping Frank with the murders (because why else would she be there that night (i hate the DA so much lol)) but Vanessa stands up to her and defends Frank. Vanessa and Karen end up working together to try and find out what happened to Frank’s family, which puts Vanessa in trouble (it didn’t help that she was also a witness for the defense, it kinda just doubled her trouble). Frank tries to protect them and find out who is the Blacksmith, but Vanessa is under a more watchful eye because of her help in court. Sadly, when the season comes to an end, Vanessa is left in the dark about Frank’s escape from death.
Fast forward to the Punisher season 1, Vanessa is living her life and capturing some pictures of a crowd when she catches one of Frank. She thinks she is going insane but then ends up tracking him down (which he is more than mad about). She tells him how much she missed him, and that she doesn’t want to go through that silence again so she gives him a burner phone so they can stay in some form of contact. When David comes into the picture, Vanessa wants to help but Frank shuts that down real quick. Eventually, she gets roped in when Karen gets the note from Lewis and it mentions Vanessa by name (because in Lewis’s mind, since she defended Frank in court, then she would defend him as well) which is not the case. Frank flips, of course, and is trying to protect them both. In the end, Karen is knocked unconscious by the bomb, and since the Senator left like the baby he was, leaving Vanessa (who was there to take pictures for the article) has to protect Karen. Frank swoops in, and Vanessa is taken hostage by Lewis which leads to Vanessa being used as a hostage to get Frank out of the hotel.
