simplify the political arc and then integrate it more into the characters’ actual motivations and arcs. it’s like - all that the audience needs to know is that palpatine’s manipulating two sides of a conflict to gain power. you don’t need long-ass exhausting exposition to know that!! and at the same time - padme should be in politician mode ALL THE TIME, not just when it’s convenient, the jedi order should be fully aware of the role they play within the political interactions of the republic, and the concept of the jedi order as a supremely powerful order that the general public resents enough to buy the whole ‘jedi are taking over’ thing should be right there from episode one and never ever go away.

related: THE JEDI ORDER IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH BUT WITH LASER SWORDS. show that! show how much it harms the people within it (obi-wan! show obi-wan struggling, depict his attachment to anakin as something that terrifies him, make us remember that he hates the things he’s saying sometimes, make him question the established order but still ultimately choose it! - just ask the guy who wrote the rots novelization for pointers tbh). so yeah like show the jedi order as something that, while not deserving of being wiped out, fucks people over, and harms people, and rebellion from that emotional repression it presents as not an inherently evil thing. 

wipe out episode i altogether. no jar-jar, no other .. terrible character choices, no young anakin (make him like fifteen ish and use the opportunity you’re given to show him forming some degree of a bond with obi wan) and make it padme’s story, padme’s opportunity to save the day. idk what you should do with qui-gon, but. like. do something. no midichlorian virgin births , if you have to have a prophecy make it ambiguous, just idk LET PADME SAVE THE DAY 

speaking of padme, she doesn’t die at the end she starts the rebellion there is literally nothing to prevent people making this choice it literally fits in with leia’s dialogue in the original trilogy. palpatine can just lie abt vader killing her that’s fine. related to the conclusion - just cut the yoda and palpatine swordfight altogether omg?? literally nobody cares about that we care about obi-wan and anakin

and finally! there are so many things i can put in this but i think i’m going to do the cop-out ‘better writing’ choice - make palpatine’s manipulations less obvious and clear-cut? and just in general wrt his arc - if you’re going to reflect the hero’s journey of the original trilogy by making a greek tragedy, make it work like an actual greek tragedy, fit it in with that structure. but also do that ‘tension between thinking of a person’s fall as greek tragedy and acknowledging the importance of the choices they had the chance to make’ thing that i love so much.
