Lowkey a little disappointed nothing was said about ICE during the Green Day set but honestly I figured. It’s likely threats could have been made to pull broadcasts. But I’m not gonna put artists on a super high pedestal

It irritates me so bad that the author of Project Hail Mary says that he doesn’t add political or social commentary in his book when every time I turn the page I’m reading something that is absolutely commentary. Specifically I’ve gotten to page 266 when it is discussed who will go to space and how it spoke on how only heterosexual men were preferable for the trip. (“ The vast majority of scientists and trained astronaut candidates are men. It’s the world we live in. Don’t like it? Encourage your female students to get into STEM”)

I could be crazy but that absolutely feels like commentary to me. Many if not most STEM fields are male dominated and it puts women at a huge disadvantage. Maybe I truly am reading too much into it.

But more on this topic, I feel that it is impossible to write a book without having commentary of some kind. Authors will always have their opinions of things and will inevitably input their own biases into a story. It helps to contribute to overarching themes that are needed to help move the plot forward. Saying that you have no commentary in your story truly just means you have no story.
