I love bones and I love Homestuck headcanons and I love love LOVE kiwitank’s versions of the Alpha and Beta kids.
What I don’t love is people hurling hateful, horrifically racist, body-shaming, transphobic, queerphobic, and violent bigotry in face of art that doesn’t fit their own idea of how the characters should look. Though it is amusing in a “this shit again are you fucking serious?” sense to see them try and backpeddle when called on their hate by and try to cover their asses with random, concern trolling critique about the proportions of the characters.
Which, look. Fandom, I don’t know if some of you realize this, but not everyone is da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. Limb and torso proportions especially can vary drastically across populations. While yes, in places the anatomy here is stylized to a much more extreme degree for sake of silhouette (John’s hips, Jane’s feet, Rose’s head), break them down to the literal bare bones and there’s this amazing consistency across genetically related kids that makes the anatomy and anthropology geek in me very, very happy.
The Strider-Lalondes have generally longer torsos in proportion to their limbs and shorter legs. Given kiwitank’s gender identity headcanons hormones and ectobiology gene scrambling mean that Dave and Rose have much wider hips than either of their genetic parents (though since Dirk obviously didn’t fare his upbringing on 400 year old canned food and whatever fish he could scavange nearly as well as Roxy, he’s far shorter than his full genetic potential; who knows how he might have looked given much different environmental stresses), but they still end up looking remarkably like one another.
The Egbert-Harley siblings, in contrast, are much taller, with longer limbs and narrower ribcages. They’re a merge of the two extremes of uber-petite Jane and Jake’s hulking, broad-shouldered frame, with a slimness in John especially reflective of him being the youngest.
Human variation is fucking awesome, is what I’m saying. .
