i neeeeeed the og Japanese Jump SQ magazine scans for KDU because they often had cute announcements & text on the chapter covers

haiji x reader drabble
prompt: 3:50 am / writing challenge here
“it is three fifty in the fucking morning.”
haiji lets out a soft laugh as you step aside to let him in. he’s in his jogging clothes and his hair is damp with sweat, windswept. he obviously ran here. it’s not an easy distance.
“i couldn’t sleep.”
“so that means i’m not allowed to?”
though you act as if you’re mad, you’re not upset to see him. in fact, you’re worried that he went out of his way at this ungodly hour to stand at your door with such a miserable expression.
“i’m sorry. i just… i really needed to see you.”
he sits down on the edge of your bed, staring down at his locked fingers. it looks as if the weight of the world rests on his slumped shoulders. you sigh. you’re still groggy but turn on a light and sit next to him, wrapping your arms around his body. immediately he caves into your touch, fragile.
“you’ve worked so hard,” you whisper comfortingly, setting aside your own annoyance of being woken up. haiji needs you. you comb your fingers through his hair to soothe him. “whatever happens will happen. you’ve done all you can.”
he doesn’t reply, but you don’t force him to. his breathing is monotonous and controlled as he leans his head on your shoulder. you wonder if he’s trying not to let himself cry. always the leader, always the hero. it’s a lonely world.
“i’ll make you chamomile tea. you should take a hot shower.”
you stand up to go to the kitchen, but haiji reaches out to grab your arm. he’s already pulling you into your bed without allowing you to resist, his physical strength overwhelming yours. you collapse onto his body, trapped by his arms.
“just let me stay like this for one more minute,” he whispers above your head. you sink into his embrace and press your ear to his chest. the heart rate is smooth and beats loudly for you. you close your eyes, resigning yourself to the position.
“make it up to me later.”
ladies and gentlemen, i already love this man
