In case you missed yesterday’s airing of my interview with Bay Area’s KKUP 91.5 “Out of Our Minds” host Rachelle Escamilla, you can listen HERE!
The interview covers a range of topics, including:
*Robocup Press and indie publishing
*The benefits and challenges of writing in certain genres
*Dustin Luke Nelson’s in the office hours of the polar vortex as a quintessential Robocup title
*Diversity in the publishing world, e.g. diversity of form/experimentation, diversity of voices, diversity of people whose work makes it into print etc.
*My writing for Golden State of Mind and my reasons for writing this // For those only interested in GSoM stuff, start listening at the 30-minute mark.
*My memoir and poetry writing, including two readings from my collection, The Opposite of Robots
As a person who creates things, I enjoy riding the waves of organic processes and the beauty that comes with letting the work dictate its own development. This is true whether I am writing a poem, a book chapter, a sports-related article, or designing books and promoting the works of authors. This interview was no different. I did not go into it with an agenda, and I am pleased with the conversation that emerged -- because that is the discussion that was meant to emerge.
After the interview, however, I expressed disappointment that opportunity did not present itself for me to speak at-length about the amazing Robocup titles, especially the amazing forthcoming works by Liz Wells, Kayla Pongrac, and J. Bradley. Thankfully, Ms. Escamilla opened the door to the possibility of having me back specifically to discuss the authors and their books, so ... fingers crossed for that!
