Summary: Fun doesn't stop when you get to highschool, and it definitely doesn't control itself when something like YouTube takes over.
A mess of makeup, lack of sight, too many emotions, and much too much fun. All under the guise of a hobby.
Staring down at the instruments of torture lying on the floor, Youichi could feel the chill of the cold sweat running down his back. Lifting his head upwards to look at the maniacal grin on his roommate’s face, Youichi had to force down the snarl that was building in his throat.
As much as he wanted to run away from the room or even throw the, glancing back down he shuddered, makeup out the window, and himself afterwards, he knew he couldn’t do that to Eijun. Youichi knew that Eijun had fallen in love with those British Youtubers— he was still amazed how fluent Eijun was in English especially considering his grades— and the blind makeup challenge they did for a charity in the UK.
And if there was something that Eijun enjoyed, it was doing silly challenges for his youtube channel. Shaking his head exasperatedly, Youichi stared intently at the boy sitting across from him, watching as the grin melted into a nervous smile, golden eyes showing sadness before it was hidden behind his hair as Eijun tilted his head downwards. That look was something that Youichi couldn’t handle seeing on Eijun’s face, not again.
Eijun had a high level of self-confidence, however any time he made a decision for his channel, Youichi had realized that the self-confidence disappeared altogether. Instead, Eijun would feel nervous and scared that his ideas were worthless. And this was something that Youichi refused to allow again, not after Eijun’s second year.
Smiling softly, Youichi reached up and ruffled Eijun’s hair before standing up. “Well, I guess we have a video to film, don’t we?” Glancing down at the makeup again, he shook his head as he continued walking towards the camera and tripod, “where did you even get all of this anyway? Did Wakana buy you some?” A horrified look crossed his face, “Is this her makeup? Is she going to murder me if it gets destroyed?”
Though he laid it on thick, Youichi was hoping his silly behaviour would pull Eijun out of his bad mood. The chuckle that slipped out of Eijun’s mouth indicated that it did help. Grinning, he reached out and pulled Eijun into his arms before roughly rubbing his knuckles in the brown locks. “Oi, oi! Who are you laughing at, it better not be me, your most amazing senpai!”
A little while later, they were sitting on the floor in front of Eijun’s camera, the makeup lying in a pile in front of them, and Eijun holding one of their school ties. He watched as Eijun turned the camera on, and began recording the video.
There was a mildly apprehensive look on his face as Eijun began speaking, “Hello everyone! How is life? So I was on YouTube last week, you know, as you do.” Youichi resisted the urge to actually smack Eijun, but raised his hand threateningly.
“Get to the point Bakamura, I don’t think they really care what you do in your free time,” though, he shot a smirk at the camera, knowing fully well that Eijun’s fans adored everything about the quirky southpaw. He chuckled at the angry glare he received from his comment, before waving at Eijun to keep speaking.
Eijun continued speaking, though not without huffing indignantly, “as I was saying...I saw that Dan and Phil had done a blind makeup challenge, and I thought, why don't we do that too! I mean, I've received some very sweet comments on my instagram about my eyeliner—Chris-senpai taught me by the way! So why not?”
Youichi just laughed, knowing he couldn't keep up with Eijun’s exuberance even if he had wanted to. “Okay now that Bakamura has finally finished jabbering, let's get the torture,” he coughed mockingly at Eijun, “I mean this fun activity over with.”
Grabbing the tie, he held it towards his own face, “I guess since it was your idea, I can have fun with the makeup first.” Turning back to the camera, he put on an exaggerated nervous look, “He’s going to destroy my face...why did I agree to this?”
Rotating his head to the side, Youichi waited expectantly for Eijun to tie it tightly, and ask the customary questions of his ability to see. Though he saw nothing, he could feel the wind in front of his face moving—Eijun must have waved his hand there. Smirking, vaguely reminiscent of an idiot catcher that both of them held just a touch too much affection for, he held his hands out for the makeup.
Placing the makeup on his lap, he reached out blindly for Eijun’s face, fingers gently brushing along a strong cheek. He could feel the skin under his fingertips suddenly begin to warm. His own cheeks were warm now, the intimacy, something neither of them were quite comfortable with.
Their relationship was one of trust and care, but at no point was such gentleness a part of it. Neither Youichi or Eijun knew how to handle it, but as they say, the show must go on. He had to snap out of it, and focus on the task ahead—attempt to put makeup on Eijun’s face without completely destroying the makeup.
His left hand reached out blindly for the foundation, his fingers fumbling while opening it. He could hear stifled laughter, causing him to growl, “that better not be laughter at me Bakamura. I wouldn’t want to be you, when you’re the one with the blindfold on.” A slight smirk slipped onto his face as he heard the laughter quickly turn into a squeak, “better.”
Finally he was able to open the compact, and ran his finger lightly along the grooves and then the actual makeup. Gruffly, albeit with a caring undertone, he spoke, “bring your face closer idiot, you think the makeup will just magic itself onto your face?” Though his right hand was holding Eijun’s face, he found the closer Eijun moved towards him, the more comfortable he felt.
Though his intentions were gentle, Youichi found his hand moving quite swiftly, dabbing makeup here and there without any thought for how it should look. They were both laughing as Youichi almost hit Eijun in, what he believed was, his eye.
They kept up a steady banter through the entire process with Eijun sputtering out confused words whenever Youichi called the blush eyeshadow, turning Eijun’s entire upper face bright pink, and Youichi describing everything he was doing, in unnecessary detail, all the while cackling about how Eijun would look.
It was only when Youichi’s inability to see almost had him putting the mascara up Eijun’s nose that Eijun finally stopped him. Ripping the tie off his eyes, Youichi blinked rapidly, adjusting to the abrupt light change. But, even the light didn’t stop him from bursting into laughter at Eijun’s face.
There was bright blue eyeshadow all along Eijun’s cheekbones—what Youichi had thought was foundation was in fact not. The actual foundation seemed to form weird lines all over Eijun’s face, with varied amounts of blush on the eyelids. But the best part was the bright line of lipstick running on Eijun’s lips, but also along his cheeks mimicking a very memorable American super-villain. When Eijun opened his mouth and Youichi could see the lipstick lining his teeth, Youichi lost it and broke down laughing.
“Oh man, that’s amazing. I can’t believe I did that.” Looking away and that back at him, Youichi began laughing even louder, “Kyahahaha it looks like you went to war against the makeup department. I’m never going to forget this.”
The smirk he received in response was even more discomforting due to the large lipstick smear.
“Well You-senpai, don’t forget it’s your turn now.”
