the tiktok metal community is so fucking miserable, and i genuinely despise poser checkers SO bad. everybody with half a brain knows for a fact that the people running around demanding people name three songs are insecure as fuck. policing what other people listen to is loser behaviour. why do you care so much about what someone else is listening to?? teenagers are already hyper self conscious about their identity and fitting into alternative subcultures. elitists try to assert fake authority and superiority over younger people entering the scene, the kids pick up on that mindset and start thinking they have to follow all these arbitrary rules just so they can turn around and feel better than someone else. it completely ruins subculture history and destroys the actual point of heavy music, which was originally built on rebellion and community, NOT POSER CHECKING PEOPLE. people just care SO much about what other people are doing and its insane. some people become hostile and violent if you disagree with their opinion and i think its low iq. gatekeeping can actually be a healthy and necessary function for subcultural preservation when it is done as intended. it means staying level headed, passing down history, giving genuine recommendations to newcomers, and actively keeping dangerous people out of the spaces and shows. there is ZERO legitimate reason to be a dick or act like you are superior just because you found a band before someone else did.
