With 25 years behind us and the advent of our 26th season upon us, here’s a #ThankfulThursday post highlighting some @KabaModern milestones that I felt contributed to the growth of our dance community. • 1) Kaba Modern becomes a regular part of UCI Kababayan’s PACN annual event •2) 1993 Kaba Modern performs at Friendship Games and begins an annual tradition of dance groups performing at this annual event •3) 1996 Kaba Modern wins its last Car Show dance competition in Del Mar. The end of one era births another •4) 1997 KM does a performance to promote VIBE founded by KM alumni and my roommate Joseph Lising. This would be our SoCal Dance community’s first urban dance competition •5) 1998 KM choreographs and performs in battle scene for grassroots movie THE DEBUT joining the efforts of pushing Fil-Am representation into the silver screen. •6) 2002 KM celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary by creating KM Legacy comprised of past directors •7) 2007 KM alumni @jiajiasplits , @mikeosong , @iamlawrencekao , @xtonytran , @yuritag , & @cindyminowa825 venture onto Season 1 of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew to rep their KM fam, our dance community and also expand the face of Hip-Hop/Urban Dance to be more inclusive of Asian-Americans •8) 2012 The KM Kollective is now complete with Kreative Movement/ @KabaKids, Kaba Modern and KM Legacy and all join together to celebrate KM’s 20th Anniversary •9) 2017 Kaba Modern celebrates its Silver Anniversary @jeligo , @matt_kng , @joshvason , @tbarron96 and @ethanlikespictures and the KM26 JEDI Kouncil, the baton is passed to you with trust and care to make new KM history.
