I was quickly realizing my cats were slowly starting to not look like cats, and it was making it hard to force myself to work on pages, so I did a handful of cat gesture drawings. ^^ Now to get back to work on pages!
Aaah, thank you!! ;u; I try and be conscious of this kind of thing since I usually draw people, big cats, and dogs, and domestic cats are radically different from all of the above, lol. I really noticed it when Sandpaw’s back kept sloping downward like a lion’s rather than upward like a cat’s. Although I do try and incorporate some aspects of other animals in there to make them all look unique (Whitestorm was absolutely a sighthound or something in another life), it can get to be a problem sometimes. Quick question for you guys. The last week has been uncomfortably busy, and I haven't even been able to finish the linework for the next update. :/ Now, I could cram this weekend and probably get the update done by Monday alright, especially since life calms down on weekends. But I was debating on postponing the update instead so I can actually get the sketches and inks for this whole next scene done and actually have some backup pages set in case of weeks like this.
What do you guys think? I just really hate disappointing everyone again, especially since this isn't the first time I've had to put off pages. ;;
Hihihi! Not sure if anyone has asked you this, but do you have any tips for lining markers/tools or coloring markers/tools for traditional art? I’m asking around because Crayola colored pencils aren’t exactly working for most of my stuff. :’) (Adore your art and comic, by the way!)
If you were hoping for long ramblings about how much I love my pens and markers YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE. >8’D
I use three to four different lining pens for my pages. My number one pen is a Staedtler Lumocolor Fine Point. 8D TLDR: Burd is a cheap artist. XD (More on that last pen later!!)((APPARENTLY TUMBLR WIPED MOST OF THAT PARAGRAPH UM. ok I will come back to rewrite it later I’m sorry haugh))
NOW THAT IM DONE RAMBLING ABOUT PENS, TIME TO RAMBLE ABOUT MARKERS AND WATERCOLORS. I’ve been using markers to color my traditional art for about a decade now, and it’s always been my preferred method. uwu I use a mix of Copic, Sharpies, Prismacolors and ProMarkers. Remember how I dissed my Promarker pens? Their markers are A+ and honestly my favorites. They’re the perfect balance of cheap and efficient in my area at least (I would rely on the cheaper versions of Copics as well, but they don’t sell them around here). I bought one or two new Copics every paycheck for a good five years there, and ended up with a pretty substantial stockpile. But I was also a dummy and threw a bunch away over the years. Whenever you can, buy their refills! Refilling them with alcohol like some people recommend will dilute them over time. (Honestly, I think you can also use Copic refills on other alcohol based markers IF you don’t mind the color change that it’ll come with, since all the brands seem to work on different colors.)
NOW ABOUT WATERCOLORS: If I had the right paper and the right paints, I would seriously only use watercolors traditionally. ♥️ The thing that got me addicted to markers was their smooth lay down. If you don’t pause mid coloring, most all markers (except crayola but I mean that’s a whole other bag) will have a smooth color on the page. And then I realized that watercolors do the EXACT SAME THING and you have more variance with color! They are amazing and really therapeutic. But I am also not very experienced with them at all. So for this section, I will return to that mention of the Japanese signing pen and tell you where I got that info: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC70l0A5od5wZ0qSwc1SreOw
THOMAS ROMAIN is the best and whenever I’m feeling low art wise, I watch his videos!! I learned how awesome watercolors and lining pens could be from this guy. ;u; I cannot recommend his channel enough.
BUT WITH THAT, I THINK IM DONE RAMBLING?? I don’t know if this was at all helpful or anything, but thanks so much for the ask, and I hope at least something in this response was a bit helpful. ^^; I have a few more asks to answer that involve rambles, and can I ask if it’s okay for me to put a “read more” cut on these?? I don’t want to be rude to anybody, but I also don’t want to bother anybody because I’m sure my rambles are annoying bfisbfosnf. ;; Because man do I suck at keeping things concise (I have another response where I started out promising I would be and yeah that went out the window real quick haugh).
What program do you do your comics with? (Sorry for my English. It's not my native language) I really like the talking bubbles or whatever it is called. (PS: sorry if you mentioned it somewhere already)
Oh boy I’m gonna ramble a bit here, sorry! I use, in order of how I finish a page…- Paint Tool SAI for the sketches (so I can flip the image horizontally to catch mistakes)- Copy/Paste onto Google Docs to print out the sketch in some bright color (usually bright blue)- THE AMAZING STAEDTLER LUMOCOLOR FINE POINT MARKER to do the lines/inks traditionally (with some help from a couple cheap pens for fine details)- Scan back into the computer in Black and White which will wipe out all the bright blue using Photoshop CS2 (which is FREE! I got a copy before they decided to release it publically, but I heard Adobe decided to release it for free cB)- do the panels/speech bubbles/dialogue/ect. in Photoshop (using the polygonal select tool I think it’s called?)- back into Paint Tool SAI for the backgrounds and colors! 8D
I do use a small Wacom Bamboo tablet for the sketches and colors in SAI, but just my mouse for the speech bubbles and panels. ;u; I HOPE THIS WAS SOMEWHAT HELPFUL AND NOT JUST SILLY RAMBLES.
don’t be sorry about your Redtail not being trans!! as long as you’re not being transphobic, having different trans headcanons it totally fine! do you have any warrior cats that you headcanon as LGBT?! :)
Thank you so much!! 8’D I just wanna please everybody tbh ncoshfodbf ;; BUT OH YES!! 8D This will probably rambley sorry in advance lol.DISCLAIMER: guys im really sorry but I’m gonna be totally honest here I don’t understand labels at all so this is gonna be less “this character is this” and more “they are into this person in specific” or “this person might be this but who knows really” because I think I must be asexual or gosh is it demisexual?? Heck if i know basically I don’t understand knowing what you want in advance because I believe everyone should be whoever or with whoever is just most healthy for them regardless of sexuality/gender/race/whathaveyou!! ;u; also Im tired its late and I shouldnt be replying to asks OH WELL OKAY MOVING ON.ONE: Redtail x Whitestorm: this is gonna come up a lot I ship these boys so bad and i love them both to death. I LIVE for relationships where people can just be chill with each other and give each other crap but also will have each others’ backs through anything. I ship them even more because VERY PAINFULLY their relationship just isn’t a focus in Redtail’s Choice. There will be a lot of hints, but because I swore to myself the comic will be about Redtail and his relationship with his daughter, any and all romance is secondary and won’t be embelished. Also, I suck at writing romance, so there’s also that. XDTWO: I do like the idea of MothPool??? But I really haven’t read the second series onward and am basing this on just what I’ve seen around the web. ;u;THREE: I like the idea of Runningwind and Mousefur both not following typical gender “guidelines”?? I would personally like just calling them both they/them (I imagine “gender” as a sort of “scale” and people can be anywhere along that big scale?? But this likely has A LOT to do with how much I just enjoy writing genderless characters.) Maybe they both respond to any pronouns and don’t bother correcting anybody but are generally like “yeah I guess I count as a tom/she-cat but who cares really”. I see Mousefur as being more genderless or even physically ambigious regarding their real sex, and that could be why them and Longtail never actually had kits as well as ofc they just not wanting to potentially ruin what relationship they had by trying for them. But that Longtail knew Mousefur was more genderless and loved them a lot anyway as both bff and maybe lover. (I’m scared they were actually related but. IDK SORRY.)FOUR: I recently heard the idea about I think Rowenclaw?? Being trans??? And I totally love it, and I for some reason imagine a lot of ShadowClan is genderfluid?? ….or idk I just like genderfluid characters whoops.FIVE: i just like imagining civilizations who dont give a flying crap what you are. gay, straight, trans, genderless, WHO CARES? its whether or not you are willing to PULL YOUR WEIGHT WITHIN THE CLANS THAT MATTERS. And sure, there are gonna be the dumb bullies, but if you have earned respect, you get it. I love how the first series is about just that. The cats were racist against kittypets and this dork ginger kitter proved that he will do what he gonna do regardless. And I think that’s what really brought me back to the series. 8’D I have a lot of other ships but they’re pretty common, I think (Darkstripe being gay, Greystripe being pan, ect.)?? And I should probably stop rambling I am so sorry nfksbfosbg. I AM SURE I AM FORGETTING TO LIST/MENTION A WHOLE LOT OF GOOD FEELS AND LGBT GOOD SHIPS AND THINGS but i. need to stop typing before i say something wrong and make everything think im a weirdo whoops too late.
What the heck sandpaw >:o he was just trying to help!! (Reminds me of that tom's with fire heart ←_←) ((this panel/part/page(??) Was really beautiful!))
>w> I totally don’t like drawing comparisons between foxcat and fire what nooo c'B (I have a lot of headcanons about Fireheart and Redtail meeting because they’re both clueless nerds sometimes and it’s great). Also, each update is a set of three pages. 8D I want the plot to be progressing each update, but one page is only 3-5 panels tops, so nothing would really be happening if I just uploaded one page at a time, I feel. ;u;
I have a feeling this is just a question I’m gonna get asked another 50+ times before the comic is over, lol. But answering it always makes me sick to my stomach with anxiety that I must be doing something wrong/people are going to get mad at me.
No, my foxcat depiction of Redtail is biologically/psychologically male, I’m sorry. ;; It wasn’t until after I got a ways into comic production that I realized this was a common headcanon. I really haven’t been in the community at all; I was on some silly fanfic Warriors RP sites during the release of the first series, but I’ve been completely uninvolved since. This is both a good thing – because I’ve been able to retain my own personal views on the characters and how they look without being influenced by others – and a very bad thing because now that I’m back after so many years, there’s a LOT of popular/even canonically confirmed by the writers things that I didn’t know about when writing this story.
However, now that it’s written, I can’t change it just because certain characters are popularly depicted in other ways. I think trans!Redtail x Runningwind is a really neat and awesome idea!! But I had this whole thing scripted before this headcanon was brought to my attention. I’m really sorry, guys. ;;
