You honestly think Narumi Gen would call it quits when you suggested that you're going to a different country to study? Babes, that's even safe there compared here in Japan! He didn't have to be a religious person to pray for your safety every time there's a kaiju emergence in your ward. What's that, long distance relationship and the time zone? Narumi's a natural night owl! It's easy peasy, lemon squeezy for him! Japan has never been at peace. But you're the only important person in it. He'd rather fight the Pacific Ocean than say goodbye! There's no refund btw. You're stuck with him. Lifetime insurance, no customer service.
Your time zones never matched btw. He’d send you good mornings at 2 a.m. your time, Narumi was convinced he did the math right. You woke up to seven missed video calls and a photo of his lunch that is as questionable as a raccoon's diet. You told him to go to sleep; he said, “You hang up first, babe.” You didn’t. He fell asleep mid-sentence. Narumi Gen who whipped his phone around just to get a better signal during and after kaiju deployment. Often getting bonked in the head by Hasegawa Eiji because of how unprofessional this dork was.
The first three months hit harder than any kaiju he took a hit from. He’d see couples in cafes, holding hands, and look away like they offended him. You were oceans away, and he misses you. He started stacking Jenga blocks out of your favorite snacks, his coping mechanism. It didn’t work. It just made him hungry and sad. He mailed you a figurine of himself, detailed uniform, smug grin, perfect down to his bayonet. Your roommate said it was so detailed (and that he's hot, you agreed) You said it was creepy. He texted it'll keep you company. You didn’t have the heart to argue, so now it guards your stationery.
Oh and be prepared for the whiney calls/chats from the manchild; "I miss you babe~", "Hoshina's being a jerk again!😠", "This frog looks like you! So cute.", "🥰😘😘", "I just watered my cactus, thought i lost it.", "Haaa? Whadya mean men are taller there? I'm taller!", "heh, you don't have to worry about me babe, i have this lizard in the ceiling keeping me company,"
He also planned to visit you there. Oh, and Hasegawa said hi, btw.

Narumi Gen is not a patient man.
He's not a polite man, either. Nor generous. Nor reasonable. Nor particularly, well, likeable—at least not in most of the ways that count.
He is, unfortunately, very good at his job.
So while he may not be patient (nor polite, generous, reasonable, likeable, good at math, etc.) he's generally reliable as a captain to the First Division. He's level-headed on his way into battle. He's decisive and consistent and confident in a way you might call blind if it were anyone but Gen. He's unfaltering. Collected.
Gen's foot has been tapping for the last 8 minutes, and platoon leader Tachibana makes the mistake of pointing it out.
"You nervous, Captain?"
The first division platoon was already fairly quiet on their way to the scene of their latest deployment—a sizeable honju had appeared from the sewer on the outskirts of Kisarazu just after nightfall, along with its accompanying yoju—but the silence that follows Tachibana's comment is palpable.
At a fortitude of 6.3, the honju they're on their way to neutralize seems, well, pretty unremarkable considering Captain Narumi's rank, but the man still seems unusually tense as the transport crosses into the evacuation zone. He's staring at the screen of his cell phone, the edge of his gloved thumb caught between his teeth.
Narumi's foot twitches to a stop.
He looks up, about to respond to the platoon leader's remark with what is sure to be a disparaging comment, but instead his attention is stolen when a jingle from the device in his hands rings out. Whatever he sees on the screen makes him suck in a sharp inhale.
"That..."
The platoon waits with bated breath to hear what their Captain has to say.
"That's MY EGG!" Narumi explodes with anger at whatever notification he'd just received, shoving the device back into the pocket of his combat suit before reaching up to snatch his personal weapon—GS-3305—from its mount on the transport carrier's wall. The platoon watches as their Captain rips open the door to the vehicle, still racing down the road towards the designated deployment zone. With one last furious howl of frustration, Narumi launches himself out of the transport, over the guard rail of the bridge they're in the process of crossing, and drops himself directly into the thick of the kaiju infestation playing out below.
Tachibana, and the rest of the platoon, blink blankly as the scenery outside continues whizzing past the still-open transport door.
"Captain Narumi has neutralized the left flank of yoju!" an operations team member's incredulous voice buzzes through the platoon's shared comms system. "Approaching the honju now!"
"He's gonna clear the entire scene before we get there, isn't he?" an officer at Tachibana's side asks, half irritated and half impressed. Tachibana manages a small, perplexed nod.
Another officer in the platoon clears their throat.
"Uh... did he say something about an egg?"
A little over an hour later, Narumi is no less impatient than he'd been in the transport—but instead of tapping his foot, he's furiously banging his fist against a door.
Your door, specifically.
"Open up!" Narumi barks, petulant and irritated. "I know you're in there!"
His assault against the door doesn't waver even as the seconds tick past and his calls go unanswered, the rhythm is annoyingly persistent in every way you've come to expect Narumi Gen to be.
"Open the damn door or I'm kicking it in!"
His phone jingles in his pocket, and he snatches the pink device out with undue vigour.
Iys nmot lvoked
Oprn it yourslef
Your messages may not be well-crafted, but they still do the job—much to Narumi's dismay, the door isn't locked when he finally tries the doorknob, swinging it open roughly as he marches into your apartment on the Ariake Base.
It doesn't take him long to find you.
After all, he knows just where to look.
You're bent on all fours—face-down with your fingers twisted tightly into the cotton sheets bunched up at the end of your bed. Your cellphone is next to you atop the tangled blankets, seemingly having been cast aside after you sent your hasty messages to Gen. You were preoccupied, evidently, considering Hoshina Shoshiro's behind you, gripping your waist in a white-knuckled grip as he splits you open on his cock.
His thrusts don't falter even as Narumi appears in your doorway.
"Ah—" Soshiro remarks, an annoyingly unruffled expression on his face even in light of Narumi's sudden arrival. "What are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here?" Narumi guffaws, a throb of irritation pulsing at the edge of his tensed jaw. "I live here you dumb fucking b—"
"Oh!" you interrupt Gen's tirade as a gasp of pleasure rips through you, your head shooting up from where you'd had your face buried in your bedsheets so they're no longer muffling your moans. The sound is pretty and desperate, soaked in pleasure. Dripping with it as it rings out through the room. Anything he may have been about to say dies on the tip of his tongue as your heavy-lidded gaze finds Gen in the doorway.
The look on your face is the one thing that finally makes him fall silent.
Your lips are parted, swollen and slick. Your eyes are unfocused and teary. Those little noises you make are the same ones that Gen always teases you about—a staccato rhythm of breathless whimpers and whines, the same ones he likes so much when he's the one who's making you make them—but hearing them now just makes him feel... strange.
There's been a knot winding tight in the pit of Gen's stomach since he got your message earlier. A simple, unembellished 'I'm ovulating'— which you sent, unprompted, to the chat the three of you share. He knew Hoshina was coming to Ariake base today. Knew it was your day off. Knew that the two of you would be here, like this, while Narumi was being shipped off on a joke of a disposal on the other side of the Tokyo Bay at the worst possible time.
He'd raced back to base as fast as he could, had practically single-handedly neutralized the hoard of kaiju just to get it over with as soon as possible, but now he's here, frozen in your bedroom doorway, watching Hoshina Soshiro fuck you down into the same mattress he'd been railing you on nearly every day for the past two weeks.
"Gen," it's not fair that you call to him so sweetly with another man inside you. "Gen."
Narumi's hand drifts down between his legs, palming unconsciously against his rapidly stiffening cock for some relief.
"Didn't take you for a voyeur, Captain" Soshiro laughs a little, a bite in the jeering sound. His eyes flicker briefly to the other man in the doorway, but it's not long before his attention is back on you—trailing down your spine all the way to where his cock disappears inside you, fucking into the tight, slick heat of your cunt. The sound makes Narumi's head spin.
"It's my turn," Narumi's voice is hoarse but whiny and he complains about the injustice of the situation. "You fucked her first last time she was ovulating."
"You were busy," Soshiro dismisses his objection, leaning down to drape himself over your trembling frame. You let out another absolutely debauched sound as the dark-haired man grinds himself deeper inside you, and Gen's grip on the front of his sweats tightens at the same time as his throat. "I'm just trying to give her what she wants."
"Fuck," Gen mutters, his voice breaking as he watches Soshiro press a startlingly intimate kiss to your sweat-dampened temple. Both you and Soshiro peer up at Gen from the end of your tousled bedsheets, panting and lost in pleasure. Soshiro keeps his eyes on Gen as he uses his fingertips to tilt your face towards himself, slotting his mouth to yours.
The wet, indecent sound of your kiss rings in Gen's burning ears.
Because they are burning.
Every part of Gen feels like it's burning, now—the tips of his ears, the pit of his stomach, his achingly hard cock.
There's something white-hot fizzling through his veins, urging him to move. To dominate. To win.
"You cum inside her yet?" Gen's voice is quiet but rough when he finally manages to rasp out the words.
Soshiro only tears himself back from your kiss when he hears Gen's jacket unzip and the garment hit the floor. He looks to the higher-ranking man from the corner of his eye as he brushes a thumb over your slick bottom lip, a brow quirked curiously.
Narumi nears the edge of your bed slowly, but it's not in hesitation. He's appraising things. Gauging the situation. Calculating his approach.
You kiss Soshiro again, but Narumi sees the way one corner of your mouth is curling up mischievously before the kiss can hide it. Sees how Hoshina's expression mirrors your own, even though he's surprised by your sudden movement. Without breaking the kiss, you urge Soshiro onto his back, climbing up so now you're the one on top. Narumi watches you slide yourself along the blushing length of Hoshina's cock—fixates on the pretty sheen of slick you leave against the other man's skin.
Soshiro hisses out a long, low breath while you rock against him, his fingertips pressing into the soft give of your thighs as they bracket his hips. You break the kiss this time to look up at Gen, leaning over the edge of the bed now with one knee pressed against the mattress—pulled into your space like a rip current pulls out to the open sea.
You reach up, and place a hand on Gen's neck. You feel how his pulse thrums under your palm. Feel how warm he is against your skin. He dips closer, his pupils wide as his eyes focus in on your lips—still shining with Soshiro's spit.
The heat of Gen's breath catches in the slickness of your mouth.
Underneath you, Soshiro's fingertips press a little firmer into your skin.
"You're the one who showed up late," you finally speak, your voice thready but distinctly admonishing. You slip your hand back to his nape and pull Gen a little closer. Your lips brush. "Are you gonna keep complaining, or are you gonna check for yourself?"
Narumi Gen likes seeing you dolled up and all dressed but I think what really gets to him is the absolute bliss of domesticity and seeing you in everyday clothes, clothes you wear around the house, comfort ridden tshirts where the neck is too loose or sweatpants where the elastic band no longer tightens and holds up like it once did
I think it all stems from his home life and childhood- or lack of it in a way. He craves that type of close proximity, to be so at ease and peace with someone that you willingly, without thinking, share all of you with him.
Sure you look hot as hell with expensive clothes that bring out your best angles but the fuzzy hoodie with cat ears at top sends an arrow to his heart. Your eyes will be sleep ridden, you’ll let out a big yawn and stretch and the glimpse of your worn out underwear’s band just sends butterflies to his stomach.
Sure that shirt and the cleavage detail raises the temperature in the room but that sweater you’re wearing, that’s not quite fitting of your form, that, upon close inspection he is positive is from his wardrobe makes him feel things like no other.
Reno and Iharu find out that Hoshina has a girlfriend
Part 1 - Kafka and Kikoru, based on Kn8 Relax Chapter 4
I read the manga version of ‘Hoshina’s Day Off’ yesterday (watched the movie after writing this) and it got me thinking about how the scenario in part 1 could just as easily have happened with Reno and Iharu. Like Hoshina corners them after everything is over and asks why they were following him in the first place.
(despite being knee-deep in season two, I forget if Reno switches between calling Iharu by his given name and family name depending on the company. I’m just gonna assume he does and come back to edit if he doesn’t)
Reno: Well, you see, Sir, when you mentioned having business to attend to, I found it the way you said it a bit odd. And Furuhashi-san--
Iharu: Don’t tell him that!
Hoshina, singling in on Reno, knowing that he’ll break easier: Don’t tell me what, exactly?
Reno, beginning to sweat: Furuhashi-san thought that you might have been going on a date, but I didn’t think that would be it…
Hoshina, leaning in dangerously close: Oh? Ya don’t think I have luck with women, Ichikawa?
Reno, backing away while waving his hands back and forth: That’s not it, Sir!! I just felt that you seemed too tense to be going on a date, that’s all!
Hoshina: And ya followed me because…?
Iharu takes over here, seeing how Reno is basically out of commission. Like imagine his eyes blank and his spirit escaping through his mouth.
Iharu: We made a bet! … Sir.
Hoshina, turning his attention to Iharu instead: A bet?
Iharu: Yeah. I thought it was a date, Reno -I mean Ichikawa- thought it might’ve been special training. But I was the one who wanted to follow you to find out!... Sir!
Hoshina: And then ya misinterpreted what ya saw. I see. Well! *his mood changes like someone flicked a switch* Congratulations, Furuhashi, ya won yer little bet! Or… at least ya got the closest to the truth.
Both Reno and Iharu: Whaaa…
Hoshina, pulling out his phone: I am meetin’ my pookie later today after all.
And cue the incessant picture-showing. He won’t let them escape, it’s part of their punishment for starting the whole thing after all.
req. — reader lets it slip that he’s worn a skirt before.
all of you were talking about the defense force uniforms. someone had jokingly mentioned how adding a skirt would look cute. the superiors technically want the uniform to be similar for everyone and fitting, you had slipped.
“we could do half skirts, it’s a fashion trend now.” you say casually.
“where the hell is that a fashion trend.” someone asks, laughing.
hoshina’s eyes are boring into you. he’s unsure why a comment as that would slip from your lips. you’ve never seemed interested in fashion.
you shrug at your peers comment, “nothing wrong with being so iconic we add a half skirt.”
“i’m for sure not wearing half a skirt, fuck that.” someone else says.
your eyes narrow, smile teasing on your lips. “what? scared all the kaiju would want to mate you instead of fight you?”
the room fills with laughter and oos. hoshina can’t help but bust out laughing, leaning into you to brace himself.
“yah, baby, would joking aside, i don’t think a skirt would be accepted.” he says softly, everyone else returning to the topic at hand.
“i know, i was just playing,” you smile.
“sounded very serious though,” he teases, eyeing you.
with a soft expression, you say, “just thought that wearing a skirt again wouldn’t be so bad.”
he blinks. “eh?”
his y/n is saying what now? he stares at you for a while and you pause.
“…what-“
“you’ve worn one before?”
“wanted to feel pretty.” you joke.
he frowns, “but you are! hey, maybe you should show me a fit with a skirt on, since you’re so into fashion.” he smiles, leaning into you again.
“whatever my baby wants,” you grin, placing a soft peck on his lips before returning to the meeting at hand.
he can’t help but feel giddy. he loves you so much, he’ll always support you.
gen narumi most certainly isn't what one would consider a "romantic". hell, he hardly has anything nice to say to anyone even platonically, let alone romantically.
but these past few days have been almost...weird? you couldn't quite pinpoint it but something changed in gen's attitude towards you. he started holding your hand more often when out in public, placing his head on your shoulder while he was playing one of his games, even going so far as sharing bits of his food with you.
why he was suddenly acting so different, you weren't entirely sure, were you going to complain, though? most definitely not.
You shuffle the papers in front of you, tapping the ends against the smooth tabletop to arrange them in a neat stack before setting them primly down before you once more. Atop them, you clasp your hands together.
"Thank you for making time to meet today."
On the other side of the table, the two men eye you—one curious and one impassive. Hoshina, Vice Captain of the Third Division, is the first to speak.
"It was no trouble," he says, that little smile on his lips you that you like so much. The one can never quite decide is mischievous or sincere. "Plus, you don't leave much room for debate when you end the meeting invitation with 'or else'."
"I'm incredibly persuasive," you reply, nodding sagely.
"Incredibly," Hoshina agrees as one corner of his mouth ticks up a little further, the point of his canine peeking out from behind his lips.
"I'm only here because you told me you'd buy me five things from my Yamazon wish list," Captain Narumi, the other man at the table, remarks boredly as he scratches at his ear.
"I said two things," you point out flatly.
"Three?"
"One."
"Two it is," Narumi says with a sigh, pitching himself back in his seat and kicking his feet up. His boots land on the table with an obnoxious THUMP!
The meeting room you find yourself gathered in is located on the western side of the Ariake Maritime Base, closer to the administrative wing of the Defense Force's headquarters than the First Division's base. More your territory than Gen's. Still, he seems to feel no hesitation in making himself at home—never one to shy away from imposition.
"Well," you purse your lips slightly. "I'm sure you're wondering why I've asked you both to meet with me."
"I assumed it was about the joint training operation between the First and Third divisions next month," Hoshina replies, a brow quirked. He reaches for the steaming cup of green tea in front of him and takes a sip.
"I figured it was a punishment for taking your phone and making that post on your account last week," Narumi muses—the post in question being a video montage of flattering photos of him set to an upbeat pop song, with sparkly heart animations and suspiciously high production value, complete with the caption: Most handsome Captain in history ٩(♡ε♡)۶ ~~ ! !
"No, that's still in the works," you reply airily, waving off the Captain's accusation dismissively. You clasp your hands together again, taking a breath. "While it's no secret that I enjoy watching the two of you argue, and frankly find the prospect of spectating one of your petty squabbles escalating to hand-to-hand combat extremely erotic,"—Hoshina hides a laugh with a cough and Narumi simply nods in understanding—"I asked you to meet with me today to discuss a personal matter."
Both men seem a little more intrigued.
"As you both know, we have—individually, as far as I'm aware—been periodically involved in fulfilling but non-committal physical relations."
Now they're undeniably intrigued.
"Ahhh, so you got us together to tell Hoshina that I'm a much better lover than him," Narumi replies smugly.
"No," you reply immediately, and the two-toned haired man's smirk falls slightly, replaced by a notably sour look. He snatches his fluorescent pink energy drink can off of the table and takes a swig to soothe the sting of your rejection.
"I'm having a baby."
The resulting fan of neon liquid that Narumi spits across the room is almost kind of pretty. Like a radioactive fountain. Or whale watching. It's less impressive when you realize you'll probably be the one who has to clean up the sticky, noxious mess.
"A b-b-b..." Hoshina's eyes are so wide you can see the whites of them, which you've come to recognize as a very bad sign. The only times you've ever seen the whites of Hoshina Soshiro's eyes are when he's about to fell a kaiju, or plow you straight through your mattress. Neither of those seem likely at the moment, so this is surely not a promising omen. The stuttering is practically a death knell.
"YOU'RE KNOCKED UP?" Narumi is on his feet, having seemingly overcome his momentary imitation of at least six of the Nine Floating Fountains, his palms pressed against the table as he leans towards you with an absolutely wild look in his eyes.
You raise a finger to pause what you're sure if going to be an animated performance from Gen.
"No."
Both men are stunned again, but this time (mercifully) silent.
Narumi slumps back into his seat.
"I want to have a baby," you explain. "I'm not really one to get particularly sentimental—"
"You didn't cry once when we watched The Notebook," Narumi remarks thoughtfully, as though he's pieced together some great mystery.
"I couldn't even see the TV because I had my mouth on your—"
The clink of Soshiro's tea cup against the table cuts you off. You glance over at him and find his eyes on you. Rapt. Waiting.
It uncharacteristically unsettles you. Reminds you of the task at hand.
"Anyway," you shake your head slightly, "my biological clock is ticking. I don't have any interest in settling down, but I've always known I want to be a mom. So, I ran a comprehensive metaanalysis of every man I've ever had any sexual contact with." You reach down and grab the stack of papers tucked in the bag at your feet beneath the table. The report makes a sound that rivals Narumi's boots as it hits the surface of the tabletop. "Taking into account comprehensive medical history, as well as social, psychological, and biological traits, and then ranking those data points in proportion to sexual compatibility for each subject, you two were the most promising candidates."
"That's a lot of fucking candidates," Narumi mutters under his breath.
"My number of sexual partners falls within two standard deviations of the mean for my age and race," you brush him off. He accepts your answer, though that's possibly because he has no idea what that means.
You watch the two men as they eye your report warily.
"Your commitment to analyzing data is..." Hoshina trails off, glancing up at you.
"Psychotic," Narumi finishes the sentiment on his behalf (though possibly not how he'd have chosen to end his statement.)
You shrug, it's your job.
"So which one of us ranked first?" Narumi presses, a twinkle of that competitive nature swimming behind his eyes. From the corner of your eyes, you see Hoshina shift foward a little in his own seat.
"Not important," you reply.
"Uhhh, it's important to me," his tone is indignant. He holds up an accusatory finger. "Why tell us together if you weren't gonna let me rub it in bowl cut's face that I lay better pipe than he does?"
"It was more efficient," you offer as explanation. "And I'd invite you to read the report and find out for yourself, but I know how opposed you are to any activity that requires functional literacy skills."
Narumi guffaws. "For someone tryin' to convince me to put a baby in you, you're not being very nice about it. Haven't even said please."
You sigh.
"I'm not here to persuade you," you say, your tone notably cooler than before, "and I'm certainly not here to beg. I approached you both first based on your rankings, and frankly based on our history. We've known each other for a long time. We work together. Work well together. But if neither of you are interested, I can move down the list of candidates." You reach forward to take the report in your hand and pull it towards you as you stand from your seat.
A hand shoots out, stopping you.
Your eyes follows the hand from the knuckles wrapped around your wrist all the way up to the man who it belongs to.
Gen's gaze is burning. His expression more serious than you've ever seen it. There's a little blush curling at the tops of his cheeks, a rosy hue of mortification you're not used to seeing him wear.
His lips purse slightly before he mumbles, "I don't remember sayin' I wouldn't do it."
It's quiet for a moment. His touch on your wrist feels hot.
A throat clearing tears your attention away, towards where Hoshina has been patiently waiting at Narumi's side. When you look to him, he stands, then reaches out and removes your hand from Gen's grasp with a cold look in the higher-ranking man's direction.
Soshiro's tone is clear—confident, sure, certain—when he speaks.
"Well, I don't remember saying I wouldn't do it, either."
Something in the room shifts. Grows heavy. Pulsates like that look you recognized behind Gen's eyes.
Tension. Competition. Anticipation.
Suddenly you wonder if maybe you ought to have approached them separately after all.
Hoshina Soshiro turns the small, blue purple-ish marble in his hand. He spins it. It catches the light. He heard someone once said that the world fits in your whole fist. Hoshina never got what that means. Sounded too fancy. But then he held it up in the sun, and through the marble, he saw you, laughing at whatever Okonogi Konomi's yapping about. Hoshina swallows, The world shifts away, the marble burns in his hand, and Hoshina Soshiro laughs. Maybe that's what that person meant. Maybe the world wasn't on a grand gesture or idea after all. Maybe it's just you. Small enough to fit between his fingers, but big enough to make his heart do some somersaults.
