Knee Slides and Cluster Fucks
Tuesdays practice went sort of as promised. On Thursday last week Desi said we would learn knee slides, and we did, after a paceline of course. Dacoda had us start with a few rounds of suicides. We started by going one quarter of the way down the rink and dropping to do 10 push ups, turn around and go back, turn around and go to the half way mark, drop a knee and do 10 sit ups, pop up turn around and skate back, turn around skate to the end of the track, drop a knee and try to knee slide doing a 180 turn, pop up and skate back.
After she felt we could do knee slide turns we were told to skate for 3 minutes, and when the whistle blew, drop a knee and do a 180 and skate the other direction. We did three sets of these, while fun, they are quite exhausting.
After all that exhaustion we had to do some pyramid sprints. I was so tired that I could barely pick my feet up after them. I felt like I was tripping over nothing and everything at the same time.
The last exercise was a line for weaving with a fast lap to start. I ended up going last, and behind a pretty slow skater, so I didn't really get to weave too quickly...bummer.
Steph and I stuck around to watch the graduate ladies scrimmage, but ended up attending a rules and argument session. It would appear to me that Desi is our head coach, but everyone was talking over her, and just plain not knowing the rules. Poor Ben had all the answers but no one would listen to him, Steph went and got him a rule book, in hopes that he would take it and present in written word the answers they were all looking for. There were a lot of hot heads, tempers, anger, frustration, and misinformed folks loosing it all at once. I guess that's what you get when you have a new anything, but really all that negativity wasn't necessary. I had had about enough, so Steph and I left. I was having a good day, and wasn't going to let that cluster fuck bring me down.
