Needlous!

The night.... continues..... with a bean. Needlous is great! A small spiky caterpillar. Needlous replaces the role of Togezo from the original Kirby’s adventure. Togezo actually reappears in Kirby Dream Course and Kirby’s Dream Land 3, so it’s interesting they would get replaced for any reason. Needlous would go on to reappear in Canvas Curse and Return to Dream Land, as well as Triple Deluxe (Edit: Needlous is not in Triple Deluxe, but the Needle ability is! Oops!) giving the Needle ability in each game. It’s a shame the Needle ability is absent from Star Allies, I would have liked to see what Helper they would have chosen. Needlous? Togezo? Tick?

Phan Phan!

Look! It’s Phan Phan! Who I totally remembered to upload! Anyways yes, Phan Phan is the actual last character who debuted in Nightmare in Dream Land (I hope). They’re a brand new mid-boss who replaces Rolling Turtle’s role from the original Kirby’s Adventure. Maybe a humanoid turtle looked weird in the new GBA artstyle? Who knows. Phan Phan still gives the Throw ability of course, and they reappear in Amazing Mirror to give that ability once again! They’re oddly absent from Squeak Squad, even though that game ALSO has the Throw ability, but they reappear once more in Super Star Ultra, giving the Suplex ability instead. Phan Phan is a fun little round elephant enemy though, really energetic. They throw apples and roll around and stuff. Cute!

Yellow Kirby!

Hey we’re in a new game! And a new console! And a new Kirby! He’s yellow now! The only alternately colored Kirby character earlier in the series was Keeby in Kirby’s Dream Course, who is ALSO a yellow Kirby. However since they’ve never technically been confirmed to be the same character, I like to think they’re different. The Kirby wiki does too! Alternate colors for Kirby do appear in Smash 64 and Kirby 64, but those are not technically different characters. But here in Nightmare in Dream Land, we get three new Kirbies, the first being Yellow Kirby, who is player 2 most of the time in later games. I’m sure everyone already knows the trivia that Miyamoto wanted Kirby to be yellow originally, so this ones for you Shiggy 🍻

Green Kirby!

And finally (for Nightmare in Dream Land anyways), we have the last new Kirby, Green Kirby! This is the Player 4 out of the main 4 Kirbies, and that’s still the case today! Green Kirby is definitely my favorite out of the main 4 Kirbies, although in the future, Orange would become my favorite. But thats WAY in the future. As in Kirby Battle Royale future. Anyways Green Kirby! He used to have orange feet which is interesting, because Yellow and Red always have feet that are a darker shade of their skin color. Or, ya know, orange as a darker counterpart to yellow. But Green Kirby in more recent games has dark green feet. But then the Smash version of Green Kirby DOES still have the orange feet! So what the heck!

Red Kirby!

Now on to Player 3 of the main 4 Kirbies, we have Red Kirby! Or at least he WAS Player 3, until Return to Dream Land, where his role was replaced by Blue Kirby. Red Kirby still got to appear in Kirby Fighters, but then in Kirby Battle Royale, Red Kirby was missing! My guess is that Red Kirby and Pink Kirby (ya know, Kirby) are a bit too similar in color. Of course they look different physically, but the color red is still sometimes associated with Kirby due to his red(ish) shoes, and the fact that pink is a pretty light color. A bit sad for Red Kirby, but at least red is still a choice for Kirby in the Smash games.

Gip!

I’m not sure what’s come over be but I’ve been very motivated to draw recently. Hopefully that doesn’t burn out anytime soon. But for now here’s Gip! Kirby’s Nightmare in Dream Land features most of the same enemies that appeared in the original Kirby’s Adventure. However, two of those enemies and one of those mid-bosses did get replaced with new guys! The first one being Gip, who replaced Bounder. The little humanoid guy who throws stars and climbs walls. I have no clue why they replaced Bounder, but they did! I do like Bounder, but I also really like Gip. Just a flying pig blob. Bounder also appears in Kirby Super Star, so Gip ALSO also replaces Bounder a second time in Kirby Super Star Ultra!

Now that we’re done with Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble, we can move on to the Gameboy Advance with Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. However, that’s not actually the case yet because there’s some stuff I found out recently regarding Dream Land 2 and Dream Land 3 that’s worth checking out!
