Similar but different blades, do you have a preference? The Finnish Puronvarsi 125, Norwegian Loen 120 and Russian Yakutian 125. All traditionally handforged in carbonsteel, but with very different geometries and styles. A high scandi grind gives the Puronvarsi a very mean edge. Over time, sharpening and stropping will turn the edge convex. This will add more stability to the edge, and in time become one of the strongest blades in the toolbox. The Loen stands out being the only laminated blade, and also for the thickness of it. A low scandi grind is extremely strong and not too cumbersome to maintain. All going in line with the very chunky style of this thick Tollekniv blade. There is nothing gentle about this one, meant for business. Of all here, the Yakutian is the oddball with an assymetrical shape. With a backside forged in, and then ground flat. The front side is forged and ground up in a half convex curve. This shape likely stems from times when knives were made from bone pipes, cut in half and sharpened on a flat rock.
