Maura: 5, 7, 11?

Hey thanks so so much for the ask! Maura is my Tiefling Paladin from a homebrew campaign @tengthemaskedman is running!

5. List 3 fears; one “surface level” fear, one “repressed” fear, and one “deep dark” fear.

Maura is afraid of or maybe more accurately nervous around Oozes, she can’t get a read on them like many other creatures and the fact that when it comes to an ooze her armor can’t help her defend from it. If she has a repressed fear it is of one of the main enemies/nemeses in the campaign, who managed to kill her. He caught her in a special ritual and managed to kill her by stabbing himself in the heart. Maura is a young, confident,impulsive, slightly naive Tiefling and despite being brought back to life, she has deep seated fear for her life. Mostly she has channeled her fear into anger towards the ones that hurt her and her friends, and used that to become stronger but it’s not to say that she doesn’t wake up some nights in a cold sweat remembering how they hurt her.

Her deep dark fear is of failure, of not being good enough to protect her companions, of not being able to save the world from the rising tide of evil that threatens to engulf it. Because of this Maura also fears being looked to for leadership because then any failures would not only encompass her but those around her. It makes her strive all the harder but can also make her react poorly in some situations

7. What feature (physical or otherwise) do they hate most about themselves

When she was younger and being trained as a Paladin, Maura wished that her demonic blood had not been expressed so strongly. She has black curling horns that jut from her head. Lavender skin, covered in black tattoo like swirls. Goat like legs covered in fine short soft fur, hooves and a long forking tail. As she grew older and got over her physical insecurities she found new ones. She most hates her impulsive nature, because of all the hurt it’s caused, both her and her friends. Sometimes, on bad nights she hates her how loyal she has to be to her oath as a Paladin, how her codes of values can be used against her.

11. Do they have any vices?

Being a Paladin, I’d say no, she doesn’t really have any vices. She’s pretty good at gambling but doesn’t often take part, and often times she’ll give up to money she makes back to her allies or to the coffers of their base

1. A favorite character you have played.Glee, my tiefling sorcerer!! she’s so much fun to play both in combat and role play. (hellish rebuke and witch bolt HRNGh) she is chaotic neutral with a good lean, and she lives her life totally in the moment, the way she wants–and that includes producing fireworks at inopportune moments.

2. Your favorite character that someone else has played.I will forever love Lavinia, @falselyprofound‘s human warlock. she is the epitome of snark and cunning. also has a cool aunt.

9. Your favorite thing about D&D.the fact that you’re able to play pretend and not really be judged for it, hahah. I love watching stories between PCs unfold and connect, and I looove when a DM is good at what they do.

20. How did you get into D&D? How long have you been playing?I don’t really remember how, but I do remember my first game was back in my early years of college with a few people–that waaas…3-4 years ago? I had an elf ranger in that game bc stereotypical tropes are my guilty pleasure, but unfortunately that session wasn’t very enjoyable or memorable. I didn’t play for a while after that, but now I have a handful of online friends that I’ve tried a few games with!!

Ah yes, Death House... a fun time for all xD Curse of Strahd was the only official module I've played in, but I'm currently DMing Out of the Abyss for my friends. I hope you and your party have as much fun in CoS as we did! Also, I'm always keen to hear about your character if you ever want to talk about them :)

We’ve only recently switched up from playing 3.5 and Pathfinder - so the last campaign we played was Rise of the Rulelords. It was freaking amazing and if you ever get a chance to play it, I highly recommend it.

My latest character is brand new - as in still at Level 1 and is all shiny and untainted. But her name is Zora, she’s a human barbarian, she’s definitely going to be taking the Path of the Zealot and becoming a religious rager down the track. I’ll have to do up a proper profile for her!

I love her to bits.
