she didnt like hospitals, not anymore. she was sure that she wanted to be a doctor back in the city. she had started to look at colleges with exceptional programs, what major she would have to study in and how many clinical hours she could rack up at her mothers old hospital. but that was the problem wasnt it? it all reminded her of the life she didnt want, the life she got AWAY from. the blonde looked at the knitted beanie in her hands, it was oddly decorated but kinda of cute. she had taken it off to put her jacket under his head, it had hit the pavement pretty badly.
she was pulled from her thought as she heard the boy move. she just barely learned his NAME four hours ago, only because she needed to keep him talking awhile the ambulance was getting there. simple questions for simple answers, that turned into him calling her ‘betty’. she didnt know who that was but the tone of his voice told her that it was someone important to him. there was no shaking the name so she played along, making sure he kept his eyes open. made promises she shouldnt have. looking at him now, she almost felt BAD, hoping that he wasnt expecting ‘betty’.
“ not a nurse, ” she said with a small smile, the room was small so the guest chair she sat in was close enough the bed. she really didnt know him so there was no point in freaking him out further by standing up. “ you were hit by a car, i was walking home and saw it but i didnt get the license plate. you hit your head pretty hard, doctor said lots of bruising and a couple of fractured ribs.”
she realized then that she was still holding onto his HAT, extending it out to him. “ sorry i took it off you to check your head, i didnt want the paramedics to leave it behind. ”
