Although Seagrove was still an unfamiliar tourist town rather than a home, Knox had taken the necessary steps to settle in. That included a modest apartment with included utilities, a half-stocked kitchen and, among other things, a new job. The Balcony was welcoming enough and bartending was a common job pursuit when money was tight, so there was something reassuring as he started his first shift. However, the layout was still unfamiliar and there weren’t too many staff members on, meaning Knox prepared himself mentally for a long night. After gazing across the spread to make a mental roadmap, he turned back to the bar to find a customer who seemed to have been waiting. Hiding a cringe about the rough start, he wiped his hands on his pants and offered them a warm smile. “Hey, I’m sorry about the wait there. Can I get you something?”
