🍂🌿 from the flower rook ask? (Hope it’s okay that I’m sending some in xx)
rook ask game .
🍂 what was it like the first time rook killed someone? how did they react afterwards?
✨ traumatic ✨ it happened during the mage rebellion in the south, he was fifteen at the time. while it took a little longer for the ostwick circle to fall into chaos ( it wasn't as bad as other circles but conflict rose regardless, in a desperate attempt to keep control, the knight-commander made several bad calls, several senior enchanters attempted to soothe the abuses, however many apprentices, junior and mid level enchanters rebelled anyway ), it did happen and it was violent.
the person feynirin killed was a junior enchanter who became possessed by a rage demon. their body warped, twisted, oozing burning, molten blood with eyes of flame, their lips pulled into an ugly slash of too many teeth as their skin boiled. he remembers that they used to hate raisins in their porridge, that they carved their initials into the chantry pews, that they used to sit in the rafters in the library and throw rolled up balls of paper at unsuspecting senior enchanters. he remembers the twisted look on their face when they died.
he didn't have a lot of time to react, he fled the tower and the templars with a group of fellow apprentices and tranquil. he experienced a strange feeling of immortality and invulnerability afterwards, taking a life making him feel invincible and untouchable. it made him extremely reactive, impulsive, and short-tempered. he overcame it eventually by focusing entirely on protecting others and that need and urge to protect others is still there now, it's how he can kill people and not spiral the same way he did the first time.
🌿 does your rook have any tattoos? what was the moment when they got them like? what vallaslin do they have / how did they earn it if they’re dalish?
yes! he received his june vallaslin after passing his rites of passage into adulthood. while not dalish personally, his father was dalish and he became a clansmate of the halavin clan after traveling with them for a few years during and after the mage-templar rebellion. the halavin clan have three rites of passages into adulthood dependent on the role / job the individual hopes to become. feynirin underwent the rites to become a warrior, despite being a mage, feynirin had no interest in competing for the place of first and given his experience in the circle, he was allowed to remain with the clan rather than be sent away to another.
the rites began after feynirin killed his first fauna for the clan ( a quillback ). the first rite is to recover an ancient elvhen artifact, this artifact can be anything. a tome, a figurine, a piece of a mural. the more unique, informative, or undamaged, the more prestige one earns. the rite usually involves exploring ancient elvhen ruins which in and of itself is a dangerous and difficult endeavor. the second rite is a dream hunt, a ritual performed by the keeper and their first involving inducing a deepened trance, allowing the individual to enter the fade lucidly and is similar to the harrowing performed in the kinloch circle. though it doesn't always involve confronting or interacting with spirits, as a mage, he did have to confront a despair demon. the third and last rite is to perform the ceremony into adulthood. it involves receiving ones vallaslin, the individual must gather the ingredients for the vallaslin, aid the craftsmaster in creating it, crafting the tools required and finally, having the vallaslin etched upon the skin while members of the clan observe.
the act of receiving vallaslin can be deeply spiritual. many who receive it experience a sense of spiritual or ancestral presence, the ceremony being observed by those of the clan who have passed on or by spirits of curiosity, courage, temperance and serenity, though done so unseen. feynirin did experience a feeling of being made complete or whole, a feeling of reaching a long awaited achievement.
on a less spiritual and cultural side: he has tattoos on his left arm and leg. they're in a tevinter style with some inspiration for ancient elvhenan geometric shapes. he got them because he likes tattoos :)
