Kokushibo is a demon of very few words. Silence follows him wherever he walks. He does not seek conversation nor does he tolerate pointless interaction. He speaks only when necessary, and when he does, every word carries the wisdom of centuries.
You do not simply earn Kokushibo’s attention. Thousands of swordsmen have challenged him and thousands have died without ever receiving so much as a second glance from him.
The only way to capture his interest is through strength.
Perhaps you are a Demon Slayer.
Maybe you are a demon, it matters little to him.
Strength is the purest quality Kokushibo recognizes in another individual. It was his pursuit for strength that led him to abandon his humanity, surrendering everything in the desperate hope of surpassing his younger twin, Yoriichi Tsugikuni.
Even after centuries, that obsession still festers within him.
You are not stronger than Kokushibo.
No one is, yet when your battle reaches its end, his flesh blade stops just short of your neck. The yellow eyes of the blade staring into yours menacingly.
His countless eyes study you in complete silence.
“I acknowledge… your strength.”
His voice is calm, measured and every single syllable carries unimaginable danger.
He could kill you before you blink instead Upper Moon One lowers his sword.
Just as he once spared Akaza after their blood battle, Kokushibo refuses to waste a warrior whose strength deserves recognition.
Do not mistake it for mercy, it is acknowledgement.
From that night onward, his six eyes never truly leave you.
You feel them before you ever see him.
An unbearable weight settles between your shoulder blades.
The instinctive certainty that something ancient is watching you.
During missions.
While walking beneath the moon.
Standing alone in the forest.
The feeling of someone behind you being far too strong to ignore any longer so you turn around, only to see nothing behind you.
Until one evening, a towering silhouette stands atop a distant rooftop.
The following night, between the trees.
Then outside your estate.
He never approaches.
He simply watches, patiently.
Kokushibo stalks with the patience only centuries can grant.
You know it is him, because he’s getting hard to miss.
He suppresses his presence as best he can, but something as powerful as Kokushibo can never truly hide.
His aura is overwhelming.
Extremely suffocating like the grim reaper himself has chosen to observe you.
At first, he convinces himself there is a reason.
You possess remarkable potential.
He merely wishes to see how far you can grow.
Nothing more, but the nights become more frequent. His thoughts linger on you longer than they should.
He finds himself wondering whether you survived your latest battle.
If your wounds have healed.
Whether anyone else witnessed the strength he alone first acknowledged.
The realization disgusts him, yet he cannot stop himself from watching you.
Perhaps loneliness has finally caught up with him. Since becoming a demon, the centuries have been unbearably quiet.
He has the Upper Moons but most of them sicken him. They indulge in needless cruelty.
Unnecessary slaughter.
Needless pride.
Kokushibo does not kill for amusement.
He kills with purpose. Every strike has meaning and every death serves a purpose.
You were worthy enough to be consumed by him.
Worthy enough to become another source of his strength yet he let you just walk away.
Why?
It is a question even Kokushibo cannot seem to answer.
Somewhere along the centuries, you made it quieter. Not in his body but within his mind.
Muzan’s endless commands become distant whenever his thoughts drift toward you.
The relentless craving for greater power fades.
Even the unbearable envy he has carried since childhood grows more distant.
You silence the screams in his mind without ever speaking a word.
For the first time in hundreds of years Kokoshibo experiences something close to peace.
Kokushibo has tolerated only one existence for centuries, Muzan’s. Now against all logical reason.
He tolerates yours.
Then, without realizing it.
Tolerance becomes preference.
Preference becomes attachment.
Attachment becomes obsession.
Any demon foolish enough to hunt you disappears before reaching you.
Their bodies never discovered due to the sun burning them away.
But the ground is torn apart by thousands of crescent-shaped cuts.
It is an anomaly to many.
Kokushibo feels little loyalty toward his fellow demons beyond obedience to Muzan.
Should another demon threaten what he has already deemed worthy.
They forfeit their right to exist.
He does not mind staining his blade with demon blood.
They are replaceable, you are not.
He never asks whether you welcome his protection.
Your opinion has never been part of the equation.
In Kokushibo’s mind, your life became intertwined with his the moment he spared you.
You simply have yet to realize it.
Then comes the day he fears most.
You are dying whether from old age, mortal wounds or poison.
It doesn’t matter.
Humans perish.
That truth has haunted him for centuries.
Unfortunately for you he refuses to watch it happen again.
As your breathing weakens, his towering figure kneels beside you.
His countless eyes remain fixed upon your face.
“Such a waste… for strength like yours to disappear.”
You beg him not to interfere.
You would rather die as a human then turn into a demon.
His expression remains unchanged.
“Death… is a privilege I will not permit.”
Before you can resist, his claws pierce your skin.
Muzan’s blood floods your body through him, contaminating your body with his demonic cells.
Agony consumes every nerve. Every fibre of your being enflamed into unbearable pain.
Your heartbeat stops from the stress put on your body.
Unfortunately your eyes finally open, the world has changed and so have you.
You have become a demon…
You scream at him.
You curse him.
You strike and punch him.
Words couldn’t describe the fury and pure hatred you were feeling
Kokoshibo allows every blow to land, for they barely hurt him.
They accomplish nothing.
Only when your strength is spent does he gently seize your wrists.
“Hatred changes nothing. You were never meant to die.”
“You belong… beside me.”
It is not a confession, it is a statement as undeniable as the rising moon.
Kokushibo does not understand love.
He understands permanence.
Humans are fleeting, demons endure.
If something is precious it should never be allowed to disappear.
Turning you into a demon was never, in his mind, an act of cruelty. It was salvation.
A gift only he could offer. The greatest proof of devotion he is capable of giving.
He does not expect forgiveness nor your affection.
He has lived for centuries. He can wait a few centuries more.
One day, he believes, you will understand. Until then his six eyes will never leave you.
Because in Kokushibo’s twisted mind.
The moment he spared your life, he had already decided that you were his.

Most people never realize how deeply the Wind Hashira cares.
He buries every ounce of compassion beneath a sharp tongue, violent temper, and enough hostility to keep everyone at arm’s length.
To Sanemi, attachment is a death sentence which only leads to more pain and unnecessary suffering.
He spent years pushing his younger brother Genya away, not because he hated him, but because he loved him too much to watch him die. All he wanted for his brother was to life a full life and not put his life on the line like Sanemi does.
He would rather be hated for the rest of his life than attend another funeral.
Love has only ever brought him unbearable pain.
Vulnerability disgusts him or at least, that’s what he has convinced himself.
If he never lets anyone close, then no one can become another grave for him to mourn.
Despite his cruelty, Sanemi is fiercely selfless. He throws himself into danger without hesitation if it means someone else survives.
Recognition means nothing to him as long as demons die and innocent people live another day, that’s enough.
His hatred burns hotter than almost anything.
Every scar on his body reminds him why Muzan and every demon beneath him deserve to be exterminated.
That fierce fire never extinguishes.
Even after losing nearly everyone he loved, the protective instincts of the eldest brother never disappeared.
They’ve simply become warped by grief and sharpened into something far more dangerous.
“Do you have a death wish or what?!”
Every reckless decision you make sends his heart into a violent panic. He covers his fear with anger because anger is easier.
Anger doesn’t make him feel weak.
He would never admit that he worries about anyone besides the Master.
Yet his feet somehow always seem to carry him in your direction.
His feelings develop painfully slowly.
Like a spark buried under dry grass smouldering, unnoticed until it becomes an uncontrollable raging blaze.
He despises every second of becoming attached.
The stupid smiles you give him when you see him.
Every conversation you make with him.
All the annoying habits of yours he begins to recognise.
They’re all reminders that he’s making the same mistake again.
Yet no matter how hard he tries to distance himself, you continue smiling at him.
You greet him despite his insults.
Thank him despite his harshness.
Treat him like a person instead of a rabid dog. It eats away at him.
“…You’re a damn idiot.”
Somehow Sanemi stops saying it with genuine irritation which he hates.
“Tch. Don’t think I’m doing this for you.”
He absolutely is, no doubt.
He’ll insist he simply happened to be walking the same road.
That he wasn’t checking whether you returned home safely.
That he totally wasn’t listening for your heartbeat with his sharpened senses.
The Wind Estate lies in the complete opposite direction to your home and yet Sanemi insists he was heading that way anyway.
He memorizes your routines without realizing it.
What type of missions you usually take.
Which roads you usually take..
What time you wake up.
The meals you skip.
The people that make you laugh and the ones who make you uncomfortable.
To Sanemi It starts as protection at least, that’s what he tells himself.
Then it morphs into interference. Demons assigned near your patrol routes don’t just “disappear” anymore. They are found torn apart too cleanly, too violently, as if something angry made a point of it.
At times there are no bodies left at all. Just blood and wind-slashed ground.
Slayers who get too close to you. The ones that linger for too long, who look at you wrong are found later with broken bones, bruises and shattered pride, warned in no uncertain terms to stay away.
No one ever sees Sanemi do it. Who would think the wind Hashira would be capable of doing this to his fellow comrades?
Rumours eventually spread that the Wind Hashira doesn’t just kill demons, he erases problems and sometimes people can become problems.
He tells himself he’s simply preventing unnecessary risks. Deep down Sanemi stopped believing that excuse a long time ago. He starts to know his himself better.
For there is such a sickening relief in seeing his victims cut up by his Nichirin sword.
Sanemi isn’t a patient yandere.
He bottles everything up until it becomes impossible to contain.
Every close call.
Every injury you receive.
All times you smile at someone else and not him.
The missions that send you away from his reach. Out of his sight.
It all builds, builds and builds until one day, he snaps.
His possessiveness isn’t soft anymore, it becomes catastrophic.
“How many damn times do I have to save your ass before you learn?!”
His voice doesn’t just rise, it shatters the air around him.
The wooden ground beneath his sandals crack from the force of his aura alone.
Not because Sanemi hates you, because he was terrified.
If someone intentionally puts you in danger, he doesn’t forgive.
He doesn’t warn twice or show mercy.
He doesn’t hesitate to strike.
He does not debate morality in the moment.
He just ends it, there and then.
Quietly and efficiently like the wind itself.
A demon that gets too close to you doesn’t survive long enough to regret it.
A human who tries to use you, touch you, threaten you is found later with the unmistakable marks of Wind Breathing carved into their skin.
There is no mercy or second chance, just silence follows afterward.
Mercy isn’t something Sanemi offers easily, especially not to people he believes have threatened what little happiness fate has foolishly allowed him to have.
The line between protection and control doesn’t exist anymore, it disappears entirely.
He insists on accompanying your missions, then begins assigning himself to them.
Eventually, he no longer asks at all, not even the master.
“You’re staying where I can keep my eyes on you.”
It’s not a request, not even a warning.
An order.
It’s a fact of reality, enforced by violence if necessary, even on you. You simply are far too foolish on your own.
He genuinely believes everyone else is incompetent when it comes to keeping you alive.
Why trust another Hashira when he knows exactly how quickly the world can take you away?
If you argue, is temper doesn’t just flare. It detonates like a bomb.
Doors don’t just slam, they splinter into pieces by his brute strength.
Walls don’t just crack, they fracture under his fists.
The air itself feels heavier, sharper, dangerous.
And when then he sees you flinch, silence follows.
His rage doesn’t fade, it implodes, like a storm swallowing itself.
He hates that he frightened you. You should not fear him, but the world that keeps attempting to hurt you.
He hates that you made him feel something he can’t control.
“…Tch.”
“Didn’t mean that.”
But he never apologizes for the rules he’s decided you will live by.
Because in his mind, the world has already stolen everyone he ever loved.
It is not taking you too, Sanemi forbids it.
If he has to become something monstrous to prevent it, so be it.
Even if he has to be feared more than the very demons he kills.
He would rather have you hate him and stay alive than love him and die..
You’ll come around to understand him eventually, or not.
The ending doesn’t matter to Sanemi if it means having you alive.
Always in his sight.
Each Hashira’s Relationship with Gender
Another random character ramble LETS GOOO
Assuming a world wherein the Master is tolerant of trans people (I can’t imagine him not being so), and a world wherein such people are known (but likely shunned), here’s my take on each Hashira’s relationship with their gender.
Tengen (He/any)
Never outwardly had a problem with his gender. Because he disowned his clan, he wouldn’t have that conservative familial pressure.
Is confident in his masculinity regardless of presentation.
Gyomei (He/him)
I’m gonna make a lot of enemies here. But. This guy is transphobic!!!!!!!
I see Gyomei as being a strong leader but also very close-minded. He supports those who had a struggle AND overcame it, not those who are still trying to find themselves. For example, he has a soft spot for Tanjiro because he is very down to earth and has the instinctual reaction to put others before himself because of his kind upbringing.
HOWEVER
A character like Genya, who Gyomei dislikes…. Genya acts out because he doesn’t know any better. He doesn’t want to be bad, he was just taught some cruel lessons about survival of the fittest. Gyomei, however, refused to guide him until he started to figure things out himself.
Gyomei would expect you to figure your issues out yourself. He is a monk, after all, believing that the body is a burden meant to be trained (hence his intense, self-injuring Hashira training exercises.
He never felt the need to worry about gender. It’s arbitrary, and being bothered by things such as pronouns is foolish.
Muichiro (He/they)
My poor baby is so confused
He thought being a man was about being a tough provider. His father was supposed to provide, but died trying. His brother was harsh, punishing Mui for any weakness or “girlish” ideas. In Mui’s head: he is a man, and he needs to act like it. Especially after his brother’s death, Mui pushes himself to the extreme to be a strong, tough, manly provider.
but then Tanjiro came along
Mui came to love Tanjiro for his kind, gentle, traditionally motherly nature.
So maybe you don’t have to be hyper masculine to be useful to the world?
Mui just can’t seem to fully connect with either side of masculinity yet.
Mitsuri (she/her)
• has had a history of disliking her body, but only because she wishes she were more feminine • classic girly-girl • Femininity icon • she is my shining star in a world that degrades women
Rengoku (he/him)
The ally ever!!!!!!
Simply never felt uncomfortable in his gender
Is fascinated by those who feel otherwise
His duty is to protect those who are less fortunate
that goes for those who don’t have the confident relationship with gender that he does.
Giyuu (he/him)
Honestly has no idea what trans people are
similar to Rengoku: just never felt any disconnect with his gender
lives under a rock
Shinobu (she/her)
Oh boy
ok
so
Shinobu dislikes her body specifically because it it feminine, small and weak
Often has envied men for their easy strength
No matter how hard she tries, she’ll never reach that ideal she dreams of
so, she has a lot of inner turmoil about wishing she had a man’s body.
BUT
I don’t see her as trans
She would not want to change bodies if she didn’t live in such a strength centric world
She, however, does not know this.
Therefore she’s not-so-casually questioning but would NEVER admit it
She wants what masculinity entails, not masculinity itself. She just doesn’t know that yet.
Sanemi
TRANSPHOBE ALERT WEEEWOOWEEWOO
”Kids these days!!!”
Raging gay man but gaslit himself into believing his FWB relationship with Giyuu is a normal straight male activity.
WILL disown you. Will probably beat you up too. Hate crime final boss here.
it’s gonna take a lot of therapy to fix this man
but good luck with getting him into his appointments gang
Obanai (he/him) (transmasc)
stealth transmasc Obanai cultist here. Yeah him being cis makes more logical sense, but for that whump potential I can figure something out
would actually die if someone caught him
does NOT bind safely. Bad man. Bad.
Only Rengoku and Shinobu know
Rengoku bc they grew up close together
Senjiro was too young to remember and Rengoku’s mom helped Obanai keep his secret from Sinjuro.
and Shinobu bc of medical reasons
although Obanai is TERRIFIED of her
Mix trauma with females and a very volatile secret and it does not end well.
literally has to be tranquillized for check-ups
I’m like a cat playing with a butterfly when I see him.
he’s so pretty and delicate,,, like how can I make him suffer so that I can continue to admire how his character reacts
Zenitsu Agatsuma is the character of all time. He's intense. He's sweet and kind-hearted. He's loud and dramatic. He doesn't open up. He overshares. He's clingy. He's hypercompetent. He has no self esteem and thinks he's weak. He's a boyfailure and a poor wet meow meow. He's comic relief. He's got tons of character depth. He's the king of anxiety. He's depressed. He's autistic. He falls in love easily and completely dedicates himself to whoever he's in love with. He has no rizz. He's girl crazy. He's a bisexual disaster. He's socially inept. He craves connection and loves physical touch. He's terrified to die alone. He's verbally expressed a desire to die. He's terrified of most things. and doesn't want to be here. He shows up anyway and won't abandon anyone. He's loyal. He's jealous. He respects your autonomy. He's a trauma victim. He has loud and initially unhealthy trauma responses. He can hear people's emotions. He's susceptible to abuse and manipulation. He gaslights himself. All of these things are true at the same time.
