they have lived a hard life.. but they do not let it affect them! they surge onwards! towards the next battle! we could all learn a thing or two from them me think....

did u know the bears in brother bear are kodiak bears?? i believe they are only native ti alaska. they r a big subspecies of brown bear and they are only a little shorter than polar bears!! they are very fluffy but ive did some reading as to why they are so big and its bc their archipelago (thats the group of islands they live in) is so rich with pacific salmon (thats what their diet mainly consists of) and since they r typically the apex predators of their habitat they dont have to do too much fighting for food!! that being said: these guys are omnivorous!! they eats loads of plants bc sometimes they arent bothered to hunt. when they do hunt they like the fatty nutritious parts of the food tho: brains, flesh, egg, and other internal organs. the only real predators they have are themselves and humans!! only adolescent bear cubs bother humans and there has only been one kodiak bear related human death recorded in the last 75 years!!

grizzly bears are a subspecies of brown bears! kodiak bears and european brown bears are also subspecies. "brown bear" is a broader category that includes several subspecies. geographical separation and location is the largest factor in determining the differences between subspecies of brown bear.
grizzly bears are one of the largest subspecies of brown bear (kodiak bears are the largest)! they live in north america and don't typically have access to as many coastal food sources as kodiak bears do, which means that they're usually smaller in size. while kodiak bears are coastal and have access to fatty salmon, grizzly bears live inland and rely more heavily on plant life and insects that they forage.

grizzlies live in alpine meadows, forests, and valleys. their fur has a 'grizzled' appearance - with darker roots and lighter tips - hence their name.

hey, thanks for asking! no, kodiak bears are not white grizzlies. the kodiak bear, like the grizzly, is a subspecies of brown bear.
the kodiak bear lives only on the islands of Alaska's kodiak archipelago. they're the largest subspecies of brown bear, and are the second largest type of bear (second to polar bears, illustrated in the diagram below). this makes the kodiak bear the world's second largest living land carnivore!
kodiak bears differ from grizzlies in several ways.
first and most importantly is their geographical location. kodiak bears have been separated from grizzlies for long enough (estimated 12,000 years!) to become genetically distinct - although the two subspecies are still technically capable of crossbreeding.
they're larger and heavier than grizzly bears are and have different diets. they tend to have access to more salmon than the average grizzly bear, so a larger percentage of their diet consists of fish. they also tend to be less territorial/competitive over food than grizzlies do. their larger size and decreased aggression towards each other is because kodiak bears have access to more food per bear (on average) than grizzlies.
another thing to note - there are an estimated 3,500 total kodiak bears living in the wild, as opposed to an estimated 50,000 grizzly bears living in the wild.
