Avatar- The great wave off the Northern Water Tribe Commission, Parody of Hokusai's great wave off Kanagawa
There needs to be more talk about how badass Aang fusing with the ocean spirit was
Idk why I like this moment so much, it was barely foreshadowed, it was cool as fuck, it does a reference to Princess Mononoke, Koizilla prolly killed a lot of invading soldiers, etc.
Aang has by far the highest on screen body count of any ATLA character.
what saltwater fish should the Ocean Spirit have manifested as, and why is it the mola mola?
(starting fish discourse bc you asked me to)
it's the mola mola bc can you IMAGINE the massive koizilla aang "hosted" except,, mola mola-zilla
Tui and Lala
I was thinking about Azula being named Lala and I thought what if it meant more?
So imagine Tui and La, instead of going to the mortal world as fish come as two members of the Fire Nation Royal Family? Azula and Zuko are caught in a constant cycle of push and pull.
Zuko is Tui, because he is melancholic but constant whereas Azula has all the flashiness and raw power of the ocean, like she could go Koizilla and not hesitate.
So growing up they aren’t aware of this bc water spirits and firebenders? Doesn’t really mix. Why they came to be Azula and Zuko can be explained by all sorts of spirity handwaving tbh, including, but not limited to, Agni being La’s brother or their spirity senses speaking to them
But then when Zhao kills the moon spirit fish Zuko feels physically wounded and Azula feels worry for something for potentially the first time in her life (since Ozai trained it out of her). The fish still exist but as symbols of Tui and La, with some but not all of their essence, which still kind of explains Yue (although the relationship between Zuko and Yue is then unclear, he senses a part of him in her but its not romantic- he probably sees her as a sister). Because a great spirit that is responsible for balance for the whole world making itself a mortal, helpless fish is a stupid move. Now a mortal but extremely powerful pair of firebenders is a whole different story.
So after this event the siblings start to Wake Up and further shenanigans ensue.
