Finally got around to making Tahu, thank you @daecus for the collaboration on this one!!
She was the one to come up with a name for Tahu and help with refining the idea for Kolhii, considering just how differently built Eridians are in comparison to Matoran 🙌⭐️
Edit: forgot to include the reference for Tahu’s Eridian form
Just rewatched the kolhii scene from the Mask of Light and noticed that almost every shot Hewkii makes he hits with his feet instead of the kolhii stick. Super interesting and makes a lot of sense, actually. While Hewkii ostensibly invented this form of kolhii during the bohrok invasion, by hitting a rock away with a hammer, he's probably been playing kolhii by kicking for YEARS, he's gonna prefer kicking. Just thought that was an interesting touch and thought it was nice that the rules still let him do that.
[ID: digital drawing of a young woman in a sports uniform featuring a blue shirt with rolled up sleeves, white pants with bright blue binding around the shins, brown boots with metal toe caps, and a metal helmet, chest plate, and knee guards. She's holding a kolhii stick over her shoulder and smiling. Labels around her tell what parts of the outfit are made from certain materials (protodermis helmet, chest plate, knee guards, and toe caps, leather boots, gloves, and strips on knee guards, flax cloth shirt, pants, and bindings). To the top right it says "KOLHII TOURNAMENT UNIFORM (feat. Hahli)" and on the left it says "flax harvested, spun, and sewn in Ga-Koro; protodermis mined in Onu-Koro, smelted in Ta-Koro, sculpted in Po-Koro; padding feathers gathered and stuffed in Le-Koro; leather hunted, tanned, and cut in Ko-Koro." To the bottom right are 2 chibi heads, one of the same girl in the uniform without the helmet and another girl. The first girl shrugs and says "Still don't see why I can't play barefoot." The other girl smiles and says "You will break all of your toes <3" End ID.]
Finally doodled out a proper idea for the kolhii uniforms in the Bionicle Sports Anime (I need to come up with a better name one of these days). Took some inspiration from real life sports uniforms of various kinds, and the kolhii stick is a mix of the actual toy and the movie version. Also featuring Professional Shoe Hater Hahli and Voice of Reason Macku.
More design notes under the cut!
[Commissions open!]
I really like the idea that because this is an island-wide tournament celebrating the first time of peace in a thousand years, the uniforms are meant to represent that unity as well. Each village had to contribute something to the uniform. Because Hahli is an assistant flax maker, she had to work a lot of extra hours getting all the flax required for all these uniforms on top of learning how to play kolhii.
I didn't label all the places where the uniform is padded because it was starting to get cluttered, but I figure at the very least any parts involving protodermis are padded so there's not (at most) a thin layer of cloth between the skin and solid metal.
The symbol for each village's element is on the sides of the helmets. In Hahli's case, it's water. (I also put them somewhere on the design for each future Inika!)
Originally, the design I had in mind looked a lot more like a soccer uniform with a baseball helmet, but I wanted them to have pants under the knee guards.
I didn't label the kolhii stick's parts because that's less important, and also I couldn't remember what all it's made out of in the MNOLGII. All I remember is the handle is bamboo wood. Even then, I figure materials for that might be different depending on the village where it was made. Po-Koro's sticks might be solid, carved pieces of stone (Hafu originals, of course) while Le-Koro's are made from. Whatever type of wood grows in Le-Wahi. I actually have no idea oops
