Tumblr's back at it again with "fitting in" with other social platforms by making the site even uglier and less unique💔
first the default mobile-like account main page then this ui layout??????????
giving a site that's always been known for being desktop-friendly isn't gonna attract new users, Tumblr!! It's just gonna make it far emptier than it got when the 2018 purge happened
I got curious about smartwatches,
especially about the diversity aspect. I've some colleagues who jumped on the train, and the thing looks convenient for people who have to keep their phone away from their body in, say, a handbag, and consequently don't always hear their phone going off.
The watch also looked fucking huge as I tried it on. Women do tend to have smaller wrists than men, and while the smartwatch sits snugly on the surface of my colleagues's wrists, it just hangs over and dominates mine.
Now, as there's a bit of a classic thing about men being able to put their cell phones in their pockets and women just not having pockets, I'd have thought the smartphone industry would have jumped on the opportunity to make women-oriented smartwatches. So, with a bit of trepidation, I started to google around a bit, expecting to find pink-and-shiny-but-hopefully-tiny examples. (if you like pink and shiny, power to you, but it's not for me)
Basically my search only turned up people complaining about smartwatches looking to clunky on their wrists (and one shiny example of a smartwatch which looked like it was trying to hide the fact that it was a smartwatch), and the industry saying there's no female interest in smartwatches because women aren't as tech-adept as men. I think the clunkyness is more to blame, and also, how do you know the gender of the person buying your watch? I also suspect the technology advanced enough yet to make them smaller, though.
And now, the only product offering a smaller wrist in their ad that I came across.
Why oh why oh why do the other two hands get a smartphone and a pair of sunglasses, while the slender, nailpolished hand get a goddamn lolly the likes of which I haven't ever seen a person carry around? Also the other two watches are being functional, while lollylover there gets an emoticon.
Also clunky.
