Speaking of American healthcare, I literally had to pay $105 up front just for a check up for some lumps on my neck bc my insurance won't cover me anymore bc I'm 19 :') and I have to go back next week and pay another $105. And that's not counting the blood test they took which they are going to bill me for and the X-rays they're probably going to do lol i h a t e this country. She didn't even do anything worth that money. She felt my neck, my heartbeat, and then said come back in 2 weeks ? ? ?
That is like, so mindblowing to me, and like, I didn’t realise USA was like that up until recently.. like if something like that were to happen to me, I’d either go to a walk in clinic, or go to my regular family doctor, and yeah I’d wait a long ass time, usually 30 minutes - 2 hours, but it’s free.. so who cares.. I can imagine more Americans wouldn’t mind waiting 2 hours to see a doctor if it meant saving a few hundred dollars in the process. Plus the taxes they’d have to pay to cover it wouldn’t be that bad.. it’s not like you have to pay an extra 100 dollars, it’s more like an extra 5% on groceries/clothes and an extra 20 dollars here and there...
Though I think a lot of rich Americans look at it like “I don’t want to pay for someone else’s health care. I only want to pay for my own. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick so why do I have to pay for every sick person? Why can’t I be selfish and save my money for my family instead of paying for that smoker’s heart transplant or that street worker’s abortion?!”
And it’s like..................... why do you have to be like that..only thinking of yourself? Because if you did get cancer or decide to have 9 babies, wouldn’t you want the help? And it’s not even like I have never paid for a prescription or anything because even when I forgot my health card, I did have to pay out of pocket despite being insured, but my pills were a dollar plus tax, which was only 15 cents.... honestly it’s just such a mind fuck to me and genuinely don’t make sense and isn’t the least bit logical.
