I'm just gonna take a guess here and say Ludwig left his home because his parents were verbally abusive and purposely continued to call him a girl. Causing the poor child to have major gender dysphoria

((OOC: That actually was totally the first draft of why he left home! Well at least 75% of the reason why he left. The other 25% was because he felt he deserved better than a middle class home full of heathens.

After some discussion though, many of the koopalings’ backstories have mellowed out quite a bit, including Ludwig’s. >:0! Rather than being totally against the idea of him being trans, he’s actually unaware of how his parents would have reacted.

He finally had had enough, and ended up going through with this impulsive (but ultimately needed) flashback incident where he cut his hair by himself. But you know when you’re kid and you do something you know you shouldn’t have and you have to sleep with the tumultuous guilt knowing the next morning ya’ mama’s gonna rip you a new one emotionally?

Yeah that exact thing happened. She never got an answer out of him as to why he did so, but scolded him pretty harshly for it. Which kinda instilled in him “This is probably wrong and I’m never doing it again”, unknowingly causing some major problems down the line with it being associated with his transness (in addition to society-driven gender dysphoria).

So that was a pretty big reason why he bailed!

The other reason why he left is because of these guys.

Who are his… coincidentally seven OTHER siblings he had before the next nerds. And Ludwig, being the pretentious self-absorbed douchebag he is (even at the age of five) decided that he was not getting enough attention since it was being split between 8 people.

And wow is he in for a surprise a few years down the line.

So overall! His story is now maybe 1/3rd the mom incident, 1/3rd “I need more eyes on me”, and 1/3rd “I deserve better”. Which “better” happened to be literally a king’s castle. Go big or go home. And he wasn’t going home.))

If i may ask, what makes u so eager to heavily include lgbt+ for ur blog? Especially trans, u really emphasize it. Could i ask is this just for interesting plots or is it from personal experience? Or BOTH? Also love ur blog and art keep it up UvU b

Well… Explanation and a small amount of spoilers under the cut, but tl;dr: It’s super important to me to do it for other people!

Sure it lends itself to interesting plots, but in my opinion, I don’t think you should assign genders or romantic orientations to a person to be intriguing to the plot. If that’s the motive, it begins to feel like a checklist. You should do it because it’s part of the character! And their romanticism/sexuality brings their own stories.

People deserve characters they can see themselves in. c: Our world’s so diverse, yo! We’re all a menagerie of different things all piled into one person. I’ve gotten a lot of super nice messages from people saying that they identify/reflect with my versions of the kids or have even helped them with their own identity, and that’s amazing! Like, that warms my heart hardcore. ;v;

To tangent to my VERY apparent emphasis that my version of Ludwig is trans, it’s because it’s an important part of his identity and I really don’t want people assuming things about him. No one’s identity should be presumed just by looking at them, y’know? He’s AFAB, and that’s okay. And he’s dealing with what comes with that, but he’s also just living as well. As a person.

I not only very much emphasize that Ludwig is trans but very, VERY straight. He likes women and is NOT a woman. Because that’s important to know and remember.

Semi-related, at some point, I was going to have Iggy find out he ID’s as agender, but I ended up scrapping that. We’ll see if that ever crops up. But as of now, in order by age, my kids’ gender/romantic orientation/sexualities are:

Lemmy (when he’s older of course!): Cis panromantic asexual male

Wendy: Cis homoromantic homosexual female

Ludwig: Trans heteromantic heterosexual male 

Larry: Genderfluid demiromantic pansexual person

Morton: Cis biromantic bisexual male

Iggy: Cis aromantic heterosexual male

Roy: Cis biromantic bisexual I-I MEAN GAY. SO GAY. SO SO GAY. Haaa… Of course… male

And there’s actually going to be a character that ends up on the blog who’s bigender as well. But we’ll keep that on the hush-hush. However some of these are subject to change, mainly Morton, Wendy, and Lemmy. The rest are pretty solid.

To tangent again, the intersection of neurodiversity with these subjects is important to me as well, such as Iggy’s Aspergers’ or Larry’s depression and struggle with self-harm. Though not neurodiverse, Lemmy’s future diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes is important as well (which, before anyone mentions it, no, it’s not caused by him eating a lot of sugar, that’s not how it works, it’s an autoimmune disease. >:C). I guess that I’d think seeing fictional characters looking how I look or being how I am would be something special to do for someone else.

At the end of the day, I do it because it makes people happy. I know when I see someone like me in fiction or on television, there’s something indescribable that happens. It’s not a conscious “That’s me!”, it doesn’t point itself out. It just makes you feel good. And I’m here to entertain and make people feel good, too.))

Ludwig: “All I know about her is that she actually APPRECIATES culture and musical taste.”

Morton: “Dad looks like he could break her by BREATHING on her.”

Roy: “I dunno, why don’t you ask Iggy? He was the one who had a hefty beef with her from the start.”

Iggy: “…Well at least she’s better than the last one.”
