5Ds is synchro, ZEXAL is XYZs and ARC V is pendulum (+some others but mainly pendulum)
SYNCHRO SUMMONING:
For synchro summoning, you have to have tuners. You can only use one tuner to make a Synchro Monster.
How to summon a synchro is that your monsters levels must add up to the level of the Synchro Monster you’re trying to summon (sometimes synchro monsters will need you to have a specific tuner)
In DL PVP I legit just play the ruddy rose structure deck so I’ll give you an example for that (sorry if I screw any of the names up, I haven’t played pvp in awhile lol)
Black Rose Dragon is a level 7 Synchro monster
To summon it, I need a tuner and non-tuners
Naturia Rosewhip is a level 3 tuner so by combining it with White Rose Dragon (level 4) 3+4=7
easy lol, synchro decks are easy to play :3
XYZ SUMMONING:
Also a relatively easy summoning method (granted, I usually only play rank 4s—)
You need cards of the same level to summon out a XYZs monster
Take Number 39: Utopia
It’s a rank 4, the text states you need 2 level 4 monsters to summon it
so you get those two monsters, and stack them
Those monsters are called “overlay units” they’re used for the XYZs monster’s effects (those some can activate an effect without using an overlay unit, it just depends)
There are also cards called “rank-up magic” in which you can take a monster, such as Number 39: Utopia and transform it into a card of a higher rank
Like “Rank Up Magic Numeron Force”
the main part of text we’re looking at is this:
Target 1 face-up Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 "Number C" monster with the same Type as that monster you control, but 1 Rank higher, by using it as the Xyz Material.
You can use that to rank Number 39: Utopia to Number C39: Utopia Ray Victory (Rank 5) or some other card you’d like to use.
Also, on some card texts (such as Number C39: Utopia Ray) you can use a XYZs monster on your field to summon it
Here’s the part of the effect where it states that: “You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Number 39: Utopia" you control as material.”
XYZs, for me, is fairly easy. It probably gets harder when you use higher ranks though.
PENDULUM SUMMONING:
It looks veryyyyy complicated when you first see it because the cards are half-spell and half-monsters (trust me, I was so damn confused til I watched ARC V)
Basically, you can set a pendulum scale, and summon monsters in between the two numbers you set up
Confused? Here’s something more in-depth:
Pendulum cards have pendulum scales:
It’s the blue and red diamonds
You need two monsters with different pendulum scales to activate a pendulum summon
some cards will state you can only summon specific types (like in the DD archetype, most pendulum monsters, or all, I don’t play DD, state that you can only summon DD monsters and the effect cannot be negated)
Others, like Timegazer magician, state that you have to have a specific type of card in the other pendulum zone or the pendulum scale will change (in timegazer’s text, if you don’t have an odd-eyes, or magician, in the other zone, it’s scale will drop down to 4)
The two effects of Pendulum cards are separate (one can be activated when in the pendulum zone, the other is a monster effect)
SO, HOW TO ACTUALLY PENDULUM SUMMON:
First, you set the scales (it doesn’t matter which number is on which side)
Let’s say, Scale 1 Stargazer Magician and Scale 8 Timegazer Magician
You can summon monsters from levels 2 through 7 at the same time
so basically it’s just that inner part of the numbers lol
When your pendulum monsters are destroyed, they go to the extra deck (unless you specifically send them to the graveyard, I’m not too sure on this because I don’t run pendulums often just because in DL, if you don’t have a skill that adds pendulum zones to your field, it just takes up space in your back row)
Also most video games will have it so that you can only summon 1 pendulum monster from the extra deck (I think it’s cause pendulum is the only summoning method with the Master Rule 4 restriction)
LINK SUMMONING:
I dislike link summoning lol despite the fact VRAINS was the first spin off I watched lol, I’m just not that strategic to know which zone to put my monsters in lmaooo
it isn’t too hard, you just need monsters (sometimes of a specific type, the requirements are always the first thing in the text :3) and when you have those specific monsters, you can Link Summon by sending those cards to the graveyard
Another thing about link summoning is that you can use another link monster as material (it counts as it’s link rating)
Decode Talker is a Link-3 monster, meaning I need to use 3 (effect) monsters to link summon it
I could also just use Elphase (Link-2) and another effect monster to summon out Decode talker
(decode talker’s summon conditions: 2+ Effect Monsters)

first off, the examples you used are very easy to visualise and this is so beautifully wriiten i might start crying. i wish research papers were written with this level of explanation. it would have made my life so much easier.
i think i got the gist of what each summoning method is about but i should watch the methods in action to get a better idea of them. but then that would be spoilers :< so i'll have to wait. but not to worry i'll get to it in the next (checks notes) 7 to 10 years! :D
i have a few questions:
what is a tuner and what is special about them?
why does the XYZ summoning method get harder with higher ranks?
what happens to the pendulum monsters after they go to the extra deck? can they be summoned again?
can you bring back monsters that go into the graveyard in link summoning back to play? because if you keep on sending monsters to the graveyeard, wouldn't you run out of monsters at one point?
how would Reiji and Lightning interact with each other? (considering both of them play sort of historical decks lol)
REALLY GOOD QUESTION
i feel like they'd both respect each other's eloquence, and Lightning might would see Reiji as (finally) a human worth having a spirited debate with, someone who can appreciate fine art and the history of conquest. But ultimately I think they'd have a cold but incredibly polite relationship, distaste for each other just barely restrained by that sort of refined poise they both carry themselves with. The second Reiji finds out Lightning wants to Destroy And/Or Enslave And/Or Turn All Humans Into Garry's Mod Data he is NAAAAWT putting up with that lol. He's going to start dismantling Lightning's arguments and Lightning's gonna do that thing where he gets erratic and Big Mad. making these faces while reiji just looks at him like 😐😑

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
There's this one fic writer (cannot remember their name for the life of me) who writes what I have been told are very good Arc-V fics and AUs, but every time I happen to see one of their stories, they're bringing up Sawatari and Reiji's more antagonistic actions in the opening episodes of Arc-V like Sawatari stealing the Pendulum cards or tying up the YuShow kids and usually the tone of the fic gets into what I would hesitatingly call character bashing, and it tends to bleed into their other stories where they regularly make Sawatari and Reiji take humiliating losses or act very out of character to justify getting karmic backlash. Does that count? I'm saying it counts.
Otherwise, making him extra sad and depressed feels a bit like... We Have Dennis And Yuya At Home. Let him be the silly one, he's a nepo baby. Problems flow off him like water off a swan's wings.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
He's unironically way better at actually playing a crowd than most other characters in the show, he just doesn't get to show it as much because he loses a lot.
I also think he had the wiki dive of a lifetime when designing his outfit the Yosenju duel against Yuya and still reads up on the time period.
14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
I think he'd really like streetwear fashion. I think he'd love those massive coats that he can rip off to show an entirely different costume underneath.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Me, first experiencing Sylvio through Duel Links as I got into that before I rewatched Arc-V: Wow your theme goes kinda hard and your voice lines are very fun.
Me now: THAT'S MY SILLY LOSER FAILGUY GOAT. HE SHOULD HAVE BEAT ZARC. HE HAD GAME. DAMN YOU YOSHIDA.

has absolutely zero spice tolerance. not even a little. but he'll choke down ghost pepper salsa and try to act like he's Mister Badass even though he's dripping snot and red faced and crying. dude nobody's making you put all that wasabi on your caterpillar roll YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THIS.

First Impression: me playing duel links in 2021 when arc-v world dropped i was like WHOOOOOOOOO IS THIS ANNOYING HALF-BLOND THEATER KID!!! HE'S SO FUNNY
Impression Now: I LIKE SYLVIO A LOT of the trio of Annoying Arc-V Theater Kids i like dennis and yuya more overall, but sylvio's such a funny character I gotta love him. His hair is so fucking stupid. I love that he and Gong are friends their dynamic is HYSTERICAL, i wish we got to see it more. HE ALSO HAS SOME OF THE ABSOLUTE BEST EXPRESSIONS OF ANY YUGIOH CHARACTER. HE'S SO GOOFY
